The ancient temple located on a 2,500 meter mountain top in China is likened to a paradise on earth.

Several hundred years ago, before humans had the help of heavy machinery, ancient people were able to build a temple on the top of Fanjing Mountain, 2,493 m high, which is also the highest peak of the famous Wulingshan range in China.

According to many records, the temple was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). The temple consists of two main shrines, one worships Buddha Shakyamuni and is named Shakyamuni Temple, the other worships Buddha Maitreya and is named Maitreya Temple.

The two shrines are connected by a stone bridge. With the primitive technology of ancient feudal times, why people could carry large blocks of stone and many other heavy construction materials to the top of a nearly 2,500 m high mountain with many nearly vertical slopes, is still a mystery.

Over the past 500 years, the temple on top of Phan Tinh has been restored and reinforced many times to resist weathering and the harsh environment at high altitude. However, the temple still retains its original architectural form.

Today, the temple has become an important symbol of Chinese Buddhist culture, attracting believers and tourists from all over the world to visit.

The road up the mountain is very difficult and treacherous. Visitors can only climb over 8,000 artificial stone steps.

There are extremely bumpy and dangerous roads and it takes more than 4 hours to climb to the top.

Fanjing Mountain possesses a diverse ecosystem, is the habitat of more than 2,000 endemic plant species and hundreds of rare animals, so this mountain has been planned by the Chinese government as a nature reserve of Guizhou province and recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2018.

To preserve the ecosystem, Fanjing Mountain limits the number of visitors each day. In particular, the elderly and children are advised not to climb to the top of the mountain.
