Securities and banks accelerate digital transformation, ESG takes the throne

(Dan Tri) - Not just a slogan, ESG and digital transformation have become a mandatory path. 89% of Vietnamese enterprises have or are about to commit, creating momentum in the new development stage.

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí27/09/2025

Vietnam is facing many environmental and social problems and is heavily affected by climate change, which negatively impacts economic development as well as people's lives. According to research by DARA International, Vietnam could lose about 15 billion USD each year due to climate change, equivalent to about 5% of GDP.

Realizing this issue early, Vietnam has actively participated in and implemented international commitments on green transformation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, limiting the negative impacts of climate change, towards the goal of sustainable development. At the COP26 Conference, the Prime Minister committed to bringing net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.

In that context, ESG practices have become a mandatory requirement. With the role of financial intermediaries and capital providers for the economy, more and more banks and financial institutions in Vietnam are putting ESG into practice, especially applying technology in operations, management, etc., joining hands for the goal of sustainable development.

Banking - Digital applications help save 200 billion VND/year, limit many fraud risks

Sharing with Dan Tri newspaper reporter, Mr. Tran Hoai Phuong, Director of HDBank Corporate Customer Division, said that sustainable development and application of technology in management is a common trend; if businesses do not keep up, they will be "out of place". He stated that at the bank he is working for, applying ESG starts from daily work.

Specifically, the bank applies technology to improve operational efficiency, reduce printing of documents, and limit the need to go to branches to sign directly as before. In transactions with customers, services such as money transfer, account opening, depositing money, etc. are all performed via the application.

“We cannot confirm that 100% of banking operations have been digitized, but our policy is to implement whatever part is suitable. It can be understood that the bank has completed the 'facade' of digitization, and now will focus on serving each item. Not to mention, digitization in operations also helps banks to have better security,” he said.

Digital transformation in internal management is also promoted by BIDV. From 2024, the bank will deploy the digital transformation project of the entire B.One system, built by 100% internal resources, officially operating from July 1, 2024.

This bank also implemented the B.Cash project - a cash and treasury management system, digitizing 90% of the process, allowing real-time monitoring and management of cash throughout the entire transaction process. With the above two projects, this bank saved more than 200 billion VND/year in costs.

Meanwhile, MoMo has just partnered with iProov to deploy Dynamic Liveness technology to protect users from AI-generated fraud, strengthening digital trust. iProov is the world's leading provider of biometric authentication technology.

The move comes as the global financial and payment industry faces an increasingly sophisticated wave of threats from artificial intelligence (AI). The State Bank of Vietnam has issued Decision 2345, requiring the strengthening of biometric authentication measures in online transactions.

Securities companies - Technology is needed to seize big opportunities

For securities companies, in the context of the market entering a new boom phase, digitalization not only helps increase operational efficiency but also supports quick response to fluctuations.

Mr. Nguyen The Minh, Director of Analysis of Yuanta Vietnam, said that digital transformation is a pillar in the long-term strategy. Many projects have been deployed such as YSuri (digital brokerage assistant), eKYC online account opening system, YSflex trading platform, and digital ecosystem for investors including YSradar, YSlive, YSedu, YSwealth, YSsaving, Highdividend, etc.

The highlight is that Yuanta inherits technology and management standards from the parent corporation and “localizes” them to suit the Vietnamese market. The applications are adjusted in terms of language, interface, and experience, while complying with legal regulations on security, eKYC, and risk management. Thanks to that, Yuanta improves customer experience, ensures compliance, and increases competitiveness.

Meanwhile, SSI Securities has also promoted internal digital transformation over the years with two strategic projects: “Operation Improvement” and S-Office - paperless office. Enterprises apply management software, automate processes, and significantly reduce printing needs.

In 2023, the company imported nearly 2,600 reams of paper and used 97%. By 2024, the amount of imported paper will decrease by 50% to 1,303 reams, and the amount consumed will also decrease accordingly, to only 1,263 reams. Activities such as meetings, training, and document approval have moved to a digital environment. The goal is to digitize 60% of the process and achieve an 80% paperless office this year, moving towards 100% paperless by 2026.

Bao Viet Securities Company (BVSC) has begun applying AI in its corporate culture and operations, gradually increasing the AI content in services provided internally and to customers.

Digital transformation helps this company improve business and management efficiency. In 2024, the total amount of paper consumed was 1,369 reams, down from 2023; the ratio of paper consumed/revenue decreased by nearly 10%. Employees actively hold online meetings, use document storage software, reuse single-sided paper... thereby saving costs and storage space.

Or DNSE Securities Joint Stock Company (DNSE) explains ESG in detail to fulfill its commitment to sustainable development.

Regarding the environment (E), DNSE has digitized the entire process of opening accounts, signing contracts, transactions and data storage, and implemented 100% online the entire process of distributing initial public offerings (IPOs), helping to minimize paperwork, save resources and indirectly cut emissions.

Regarding society (S), the company focuses on bringing securities closer to all classes of investors, through the simplest and most convenient approaches, thereby aiming at the goal that everyone, regardless of class, can invest and control their finances.

DNSE Securities also invests in developing an ecosystem of social media channels such as Cow and Bear or Cow and Bear Academy to bring financial and stock content to investors in a friendly and humorous way. Regarding governance (G), DNSE applies many advanced solutions and AI to automate the company's business operations, as well as in internal operations.

In internal management, DNSE improves processes, uses platforms such as Odoo, Jira, etc. to manage finance, human resources, as well as other internal operations to ensure high efficiency and save time.

Speakers at the seminar "Digital transformation in governance - ESG implementation experience from financial enterprises" organized by Dan Tri newspaper.

DNSE also regularly holds internal workshops, guiding the application of AI solutions to support specific operations, with the goal of increasing work efficiency and quality.

Along with that, many large financial companies are also forced to add ESG and digital transformation indicators to their financial reports according to new practices.

At Yuanta Securities, integrating ESG and digital transformation into governance and reporting is not only to meet international standards, but also a long-term strategic orientation. At the global level, Yuanta Holdings has published an annual ESG Report with specific indicators on risk management, sustainable development and system digitalization.

In Vietnam alone, Yuanta has realized this through many actions: deploying the YSflex digital trading platform, eKYC application, YSuri digital brokerage assistant, investor support ecosystem (YSradar, YSlive, YSedu), while upgrading the risk management system according to ISO standards and making reporting transparent.

The seminar "Digital transformation in governance - ESG implementation experience from financial sector enterprises" organized by Dan Tri newspaper will take place at 9:00 a.m. on September 30.

Speakers attending the seminar included Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Trung - Principal of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Pham Hong Hai - General Director of Orient Commercial Joint Stock Bank (OCB), Mr. Tuan Nhan - CEO of Vietcap Securities Joint Stock Company.

This seminar is a satellite event of the Vietnam ESG Forum 2025 with the theme "Science and technology and driving force for sustainable development". The Vietnam ESG Forum is an annual event initiated and organized by Dan Tri newspaper to connect parties to share messages and inspire ESG implementation towards sustainable development.

After its launch, the Vietnam ESG Forum has received many positive responses from the community and experts to promote and develop ESG standards in business operations of enterprises.

The highlight of the Vietnam ESG Forum is the Vietnam ESG Awards - honoring units that effectively implement ESG. Interested businesses and organizations can register to participate in the Vietnam ESG Awards 2025 here.
