Southeast Asia faces rising supply chain risks
According to the Global Market Update Report Q3/2025 by multinational shipping services group Maersk, the supply chain in Southeast Asia remains strong but increasingly faces structural risks such as inflation, climate-related disruptions and geopolitical instability.
The regional economy is expected to grow around 4.7% this year, the logistics group said, although volatility in global trade and cost pressures are weighing on market sentiment.
“Many Southeast Asian governments are adjusting policies to maintain growth momentum, taking into account these external pressures,” the report said.
Unpredictable weather conditions have already begun to impact domestic freight flows in some markets, and this trend is expected to continue. The company said it is focusing on driving operational efficiencies and improving domestic services to provide customers with greater flexibility and reliability.
Looking at the Asia-Pacific region as a whole, the report said that sea freight remained generally stable through the end of September, while air freight demand eased slightly after strong growth at the beginning of the year.
However, trade flows are diverging, with imports into North America and the Far East falling against strong demand in Europe, Africa and Latin America.
