Holding a smartphone worth over 30 million and comparing the camera is "poor thinking"?
There is no doubt that camera innovations are an important aspect of the growth of the smartphone industry.
Almost all major smartphone manufacturers are working hard to improve both the hardware and software algorithms of their cameras.
And smartphones equipped with 1-inch sensors are coming soon.
It should be noted that the sensor size of the iPhone 15 Pro Max's main camera is said to be 1/1.14 inches, which is slightly larger than the 1/1.28 inches of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
iPhone 16 Pro Max is said to have a 1-inch sensor?
However, according to Mr. Li Nan - former vice president of Meizu Technology and president of the Meizu brand - this is a typical example of "poor thinking":
"To be honest, there is always a group of people holding smartphones priced from 6,000 to 10,000 yuan (from 20 to 35 million VND) and comparing different details from color, resolution to brightness.
But considering their own photography skills, give them a 2,000 yuan (about 7 million VND) phone.
And they can't even get 30% of the performance out of those budget smartphones. Taking photos and videos on a smartphone is a typical act of poor thinking."
Founded in 2003 by Li Nan, Bai Yongxiang and Huang Zhang (Jack Wong), Meizu Technology initially focused on manufacturing MP3 players and later MP4 players. In 2008, the company changed its focus from MP3, MP4 players to smartphones.
Once considered one of Huawei's heavyweight rivals, Meizu gradually retreated in the smartphone market in 2019. Mr. Li Nan also left the company at this time.
In 2022, automaker Geely's mobile division acquired Meizu to further expand its phone business.
Mr. Li Nan is still a famous technology commentator in China.
Mr. Li Nan served as vice president of Meizu Technology and president of the Meizu brand.
Not just 1 inch sensor but also M43?
Li Nan also did not forget to satirize the manufacturer of flagship (top phone) phones focusing on photography: "This is a typical example of poor students having too much stationery".
Currently, many Chinese netizens seem to agree with Li Nan's statement, even thinking that he is secretly "insulting" some major smartphone manufacturers who are investing in cameras to differentiate themselves.
According to sources from China, some smartphone manufacturers are currently trying to equip the M43 sensor.
The size of the M43 sensor is larger than a 1-inch sensor, so putting it into a smartphone is not easy, so the time when the first smartphone with the M43 sensor is launched will probably be counted in years.
M43 or Micro 4/3, Micro Four Thirds is a standard released by Olympus and Panasonic in 2008, for the design and development of digital cameras, mirrorless camcorders with interchangeable lenses.
The M43's image sensor measures 18 mm × 13.5 mm (22.5 mm diagonal), with an imaging area of 17.3 mm × 13.0 mm (21.6 mm diagonal).
In addition to Olympus and Panasonic, other notable M43 camera manufacturers include Blackmagic, DJI, JVC, Kodak, Sharp, and Xiaomi.
