On the morning of October 25, at Song Than station (Di An city, Binh Duong province), Railway Transport and Trade Joint Stock Company in collaboration with FADO Export Joint Stock Company and Vietnam Railway Corporation held a ceremony to announce and depart the first train carrying fresh coconuts for export to China.

Coconut is a year-round crop, so transporting fresh coconuts for export must use standard refrigerated containers, keeping the temperature stable throughout the journey. The first shipment consisted of 3 containers, total weight 67.5 tons, transported from Song Than international transit station to Guangzhou, China, with a total journey time of 7 days.

Using the railway network is a mode of transportation with many advantages, especially stable transportation time, quick customs procedures for export and import to China, and lower logistics costs compared to road transport.

Mr. Phan Quoc Anh, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation, said that implementing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), Vietnam has so far officially exported 14 agricultural products to the Chinese market. Of which, fresh coconut has just been approved for official import from Vietnam.

Currently, the Ministry of Transport is implementing projects to upgrade and renovate Song Than station in the 2025-2030 period. When completed, the cargo receiving capacity will reach 3.5 million tons/year and become the largest cargo terminal in the Vietnam railway station system.

Once the infrastructure for logistics activities is completed and meets all requirements, Vietnam Railways Corporation will plan to exploit Song Than international transit station to organize specialized trains running directly from the station to China, transiting to third countries and vice versa.
