With 20 years standing on the podium of the Pedagogical Practice Primary, Secondary and High School (under Ha Long University), 4 years working at Trung Vuong Secondary School and currently working at Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School (Uong Bi City), teacher Vu Duc Kien always demonstrates a unique teaching method with Math, a subject that is difficult for many people to grasp.
Mr. Kien often tells his students that Mathematics helps develop thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, but first of all, they must love learning Mathematics. And to make students love this subject, Mr. Kien chooses to integrate practical knowledge, creating opportunities for students to think independently and find their own solutions.
Learning from Mr. Kien's way of thinking, students gradually realize that Mathematics is not strange, but it is present in life, in every planning, every step of problem analysis. A math problem is understood more deeply and remembered longer when students are proactive in approaching, asking questions, making mistakes and learning from mistakes.
Through each teaching hour, each student's attentive gaze, each question asked at the end of the lesson, it is enough to see that what Mr. Kien is doing has really convinced the students. In particular, Mr. Kien's nearly 23 years of experience in training excellent math students at all levels is an impressive achievement for many colleagues.
Every year, the Uong Bi City team participating in the provincial-level excellent student competition has about 15-20 students; of which 5-7 are students from Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School. In the 2024-2025 school year alone, the Uong Bi City team won 12/13 prizes, of which Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School won 5 prizes, including 1 first prize, 2 third prizes and 2 consolation prizes.
Ngo Mai Khue, a student of class 9A8, Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School, who just won the third prize in the city-level Math competition for the 2024-2025 school year, shared: For me, achieving high results in competitions for excellent students is a great joy and a motivation for me to try harder. But what I appreciate most is that my passion for this subject has helped me have a scientific and logical way of thinking.
Not everyone who has been teaching for a long time can maintain the same enthusiasm as the first day. But for teacher Kien, the love of Mathematics and the enthusiasm for the " ferryman" profession have never faded. And for many generations of students, the formulas and theorems may fade away over the years. But the memory of a simple, dedicated teacher who always wanted his students to grow up with their thinking and love for the profession will last forever.
