
The information was given at the Vietnam - Japan economic cooperation trade conference, organized by the Trade Promotion Agency, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, in coordination with the Vietnam Trade Office Branch in Osaka and the Osaka City government on May 27, in Osaka, Japan.
Mr. Bui Quang Hung - Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Agency said that Japan is currently the 4th largest trading partner of Vietnam (after the United States, China and South Korea). According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, in 2024, the total import-export turnover between Vietnam and Japan will reach 46.20 billion USD, an increase of 2.77% compared to 2023.
Of which, exports of goods from Vietnam to Japan reached 24.61 billion USD, an increase of 5.55% compared to 2023. The commodity structure of the two countries is complementary, not competitive.
In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam's exports to Japan reached 8.5 billion USD, up 12%; imports reached 7.9 billion USD, up 6.5% over the same period last year.
Currently, the two countries are members of three bilateral and multilateral FTAs, creating many opportunities and favorable conditions for trade activities between the two countries.
In particular, in 2025, in the context of the global economy facing many challenges, strengthening the Vietnam - Japan "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" is of utmost importance to the socio-economic development of each country.

Ms. Quyen Thi Thuy Ha, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Osaka, informed that Japan is an important market for Vietnamese agricultural products.
In 2024, exports of processed agricultural products (especially fresh fruits and seafood) to Japan are expected to increase sharply thanks to market opening agreements and improvements in product quality, gradually meeting Japan's high quality standards.
Vietnamese and Japanese businesses are cooperating to develop high-tech agriculture in Vietnam, especially in areas such as livestock, aquaculture and organic agricultural production. Japanese companies are also providing advanced technologies in quality management and agricultural product preservation.
At the conference, 28 Vietnamese enterprises introduced to Japanese partners many agricultural products, food; mechanical and electronic components, construction materials, household products, perfumes, etc.
