Young girl helps Xo Dang people develop tourism

Over the years, Dak Na commune has become a destination for many domestic and foreign tourists with its majestic natural landscape, primeval forests and magnificent Siu Puong waterfall. Not only that, this place is also a place to preserve the priceless cultural treasures of the Xo Dang people.

In 2023, realizing the great potential for experiential tourism in Dak Na commune, Tu Mo Rong district, Ms. Y Gia Nhi and the young people in the village developed and promoted the natural beauty of her homeland. However, the journey to design a tour for her and the local people has never been easy.

Ms. Nhi said that she had the opportunity to go to big cities and provinces to study and learned many good things during this time. However, the opportunity to work in tourism came to her very unexpectedly and since then she has been attached to it for over 2 years.

“Although I was born, grew up and understood nature well in Dak Na commune, I never had the idea of ​​developing tourism models here. Until I saw the government starting to develop and promote the image of Siu Puong waterfall, I started to have the idea of ​​designing my own tour to take visitors to see the beautiful local scenery,” Nhi shared.

Getting right to work, she started to go online to learn about tour design; build promotional channels; connect with travel companies, local people... to realize her ideas. From an "amateur" entering the profession, she accumulated experience from guiding tourists on tours.

Ms. Nhi recounted that at first she only guided tours for about 5 people, gradually increasing to 20 people, and now she is confident in taking groups of up to 100 people. Not only that, she also linked up with about 60 Xo Dang people in the commune to set up motorbike-porter teams; culinary teams; and gong teams to serve tourists.

With many supportive policies from the government, Ms. Nhi and the locals have built many new models such as: picnics, camping, mountain climbing, cloud hunting, viewing precious medicinal herb gardens and introducing the unique culture of the Xo Dang people. Gradually, many tourists spread the word and came to her experience tours, creating jobs and increasing income for the people here.

“The average income of each tour is 300,000 VND/person. Depending on the season, each month the people have an additional income of 1 - 3 million VND. The people earn money from transporting tourists to the waterfall, serving meals, performing arts... In addition to bringing income to the people, what makes me happy is being able to personally promote the beauty of tourism, the cultural identity of the locality, of the Xo Dang people to domestic and foreign tourists,” Ms. Nhi added.

Sharing her passion for developing local tourism, Ms. Nhi said that doing tourism must come from the heart and the desire to bring unforgettable experiences to tourists. Therefore, every place to visit, take pictures, and organize meals is carefully planned by her, not to offend any tourist. This helps her tours to be loved by many groups of tourists, from which they connect with new groups of tourists to promote local tourism.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy - Chairman of Dak Na Commune People's Committee said that every year, the locality welcomes more than 1,000 visitors to visit Siu Puong waterfall. Thanks to the tourism service model of Ms. Y Gia Nhi, the natural landscape and culture of the Xo Dang people are known and loved by many tourists. In the coming time, the commune will build a community tourism village in Le Vang village to combine tours to visit Siu Puong waterfall. In particular, the fact that young, dynamic and enthusiastic people have many good ways to do tourism has contributed to increasing the income of local people, thereby contributing to the overall poverty reduction in the commune.
