On the evening of November 14, the Vietnam Youth Union in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training held a ceremony to honor 80 outstanding teachers in the program "Sharing with teachers" in 2025.

Among them is teacher Dinh Le Thu, currently a teacher at Duong Hoa Primary School (Duong Hoa Commune, Quang Ninh Province). Over the past 17 years, she has experienced many memories; there were difficulties and hardships, but also much joy and pride. On that journey, there have been many generations of students who have grown up under the guidance and teaching of Ms. Thu.

At the program, the organizers brought Ms. Thu a surprise gift, which were messages from afar from a former student. In the clip, female student Chiu Di Linh shared: “When I was young, my circumstances were very difficult, my parents did not live together. I had two younger brothers, so I decided to drop out of school. Ms. Thu was the one who encouraged me to go back to school. She asked the school to let me go to school.”

Now, the poor schoolgirl has grown up and has a small family with a good husband and a daughter.

As soon as the little student’s words stopped, Ms. Thu could not hide her emotions and tears. This is an unforgettable memory for Ms. Thu. “It is a memory that I rarely mention, because every time I mention her, I cannot hold back my tears, such a pitiful situation,” Ms. Thu confided.

The student Chiu Di Linh, that year was a 5th grader with Ms. Thu as the homeroom teacher. Linh had 3 siblings. At that time, Linh's youngest child was about 1.5 years old, just learning to walk, but the father of the 3 sisters had left home a long time ago. Normally, the 4 mother and children lived together.

Ms. Thu said that one day, she didn't see Linh come to class, so that afternoon she went straight to her house to look for her even though she lived far away. "When I arrived, I saw the three sisters sitting hugging each other in a corner. At that time, the student told me: Teacher, my mother left, I have no one left. At that time, I really felt sorry for the three sisters. I told her: It's okay, I'm here," Ms. Thu choked up.

At that time, teacher Thu's child was just over 2 years old and had never had to stay away from her mother overnight. At that time, Linh and her siblings had no relatives around. Ms. Thu decided to call her husband to ask him to look after the children and that night she stayed with the 3 children. According to Ms. Thu, the 5th grade student had the smallest and thinnest body in the class. At an age when her parents should have taken care of her meals and sleep, now they had to take care of both of her siblings. That's why Linh wanted to quit school. "That night, I encouraged her to continue going to school no matter what," Ms. Thu said.

Later, Ms. Thu learned that due to difficult economic conditions, her mother went to China to work.

And when her parents left, Linh was truly lucky to have Ms. Thu "come close", like another relative to accompany her. From that, it also helped her move on to a new chapter of her life. After many years, now, the 5th grade student has grown up, has a small, happy family and still remembers teacher Dinh Le Thu. Those are also the things that make a teacher like Ms. Thu feel happy and proud.
