According to AFC regulations, the six best-performing teams in the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup finals in Australia will qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil.
Twelve teams compete for six spots in the 2027 World Cup.
This means that the four teams that reach the semi-finals of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship will qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup.
Meanwhile, the four teams eliminated in the quarter-finals will proceed to the intense play-off round. Here, the four teams will be divided into two pairs, and the winners of these two matches will secure a ticket to Brazil.
The two teams that lost in the play-offs still have a chance to qualify for the 2027 World Cup when the Asian representative participates in the inter-regional play-offs.
It's clear that out of the 12 teams participating in the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship, 50% will qualify for the 2027 World Cup. This is a fairly high percentage, making it a dream for any team.
An opportunity for the Vietnamese women's national team.

According to experts, the Vietnamese women's national team has a chance of qualifying for the 2027 World Cup if they have a little more luck. First, to even think about the 2027 World Cup, Coach Mai Duc Chung's team must get past the group stage. With their current strength, the Vietnamese women's team is highly likely to achieve this goal.
In the quarterfinals, the Vietnamese women's team will almost certainly face one of the five biggest women's football nations in Asia: South Korea, Japan, China, Australia, and North Korea. Given the significant difference in skill level, the Vietnamese women's team has little chance of advancing further.
At that point, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team would have to hope to qualify for the 2025 World Cup from the play-off round (after losing in the quarter-finals). According to football experts, one of the five strongest teams in Asia – South Korea, Japan, China, Australia, and North Korea – would certainly be eliminated after the quarter-finals.
If the draw doesn't pit Vietnam against one of these five teams in the play-off round, then Coach Mai Duc Chung's team will have a chance to qualify for the 2027 World Cup. However, if the draw pits Vietnam against one of these five "big teams," things will be very difficult.
Besides the Vietnamese women's team, the Philippines, India, and Chinese Taipei are also contenders for the sixth qualifying spot for the 2027 World Cup in the Asian region.
At the 2022 Asian Women's Football Championship, the Vietnamese women's team secured a ticket to the 2023 World Cup after winning the play-off round.
At that time, the Vietnamese, Chinese Taipei, and Thai women's teams played a round-robin tournament to determine the best-performing team to qualify for the 2023 World Cup. The Vietnamese team secured all 6 points with a 2-0 victory over Thailand and a 2-1 win against Chinese Taipei.
The reason the 2023 World Cup play-offs only have three teams is because Australia – who were eliminated in the quarter-finals – did not participate as they are hosting the 2023 World Cup.
