In the process of creating works, Le Vi Thuy always renews herself but still retains her own unique features that cannot be confused with anyone else. If the short story collection "Moon hanging on the mountain top" makes readers sob about the fate of the women she depicts in each story, "Border mist" brings a very unique and vibrant Central Highlands.
With her own knowledge, experience and experiences in the Central Highlands where she was born, Le Vi Thuy has turned it into special material to recreate vivid footage in each of her stories.

The titles of the stories make readers think or curious about the content the author wants to tell. Some titles bring a gentle feeling like “Under the sunset light”, “Border mist”, but some stories are tinged with mystery like “Pngan ôngan”, “Piece of wood with a human face”… No one can guess what surprises are hidden behind the 12 titles in the collection.
In “Border Mist” there are stories about tombs, haunted forests interwoven with wooden statues, about customs associated with the lives of ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands. The author also writes a lot about the unique features of the Central Highlands that cannot be confused with any other region. There are lives attached to the mountains and forests, to the sunny and windy highland.
Reading “Border Mist”, readers will be impressed with “The statues of the graves are whispering and crying to each other, their voices echoing, far and near in the sound of the wind”; surprised with “Right on the way down to the wharf, the villagers built a gate and a trellis, hung a dog skin, placed a sword and tied a black thread to prevent the invasion of evil spirits to the villagers”; or calmed down with “Buon Sah A in the red sunset pouring down on the long houses lined up next to each other, seemingly stretching to infinity with a red-orange color like a Fauvist painting that if Henri Matisse were here, he would be like Dan, standing there, staring blankly”...
The very characteristic feature of author Le Vi Thuy lies in each sentence. Writer Vo Thi Xuan Ha commented: "Thuy's writing is full of images and colors, the colors of the Central Highlands - a land that hides legendary mysteries". Each of her writings contains unique and sharp words, making the sounds or scenes in each story seem to pop up in the ears or appear in the eyes. Each story brings readers perspectives and contexts of a Central Highlands that they have never known.
There is a Central Highlands that is wildly beautiful but also mysterious. There are many tragic fates, but also contain love between people. Author Le Vi Thuy must have certain understanding of the unique features of each ethnic minority group to be able to put their language, culture, and characteristics into each of her stories in a realistic way and arouse in readers curiosity and a desire to understand more.
Dr. Ha Thanh Van once commented: “Le Vi Thuy is different from many other female writers, not using the “feminine” element, the “gender” element or the “self-narrating” spirit to attract literary readers to her literature”. The author always leaves a very clear impression with each short story, incorporating not only the story or the writing, not only the culture or identity, but she also puts her own personality and uniqueness into the story.
It can be said that the short story collection “Border Mist” has opened a successful year in literature for author Le Vi Thuy. Recently, she won first prize in the short story writing contest organized by Song Huong Magazine.
