15 years of so much love
Officially established on February 15, 1961, but in fact, the R Liberation Art Troupe had been operating since before that. In the memories of many people, "while building a place to eat and live, being ready to fight... and practicing performing arts, on December 20, 1960, the artists of the troupe participated in a performance to celebrate the launching ceremony of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam". Thus, until the country was completely unified, the R Liberation Art Troupe had gone through nearly 15 years with many joys and sorrows, hardships and feelings that the members of the troupe had for each other.

With nearly 550 pages, the R Liberation Art Troupe - A historical mark is divided into 3 parts: Shoulder to shoulder under the same flag; Portrait of talented people against the current of the flood and This fate keeps this common property. From recreating the context and history of the troupe's formation to the memoirs of the people involved, accompanied by 50 revolutionary songs born during this period and letters from the front line of the Fatherland, the book is not only a valuable documentary work but also conveys profound values about patriotism, the spirit of sacrifice and passion for art of the people who turned songs, dances into sharp weapons on the ideological front. One special thing is that even though it has been more than 50 years, until now, many songs born during that period are still loved and performed such as: Unforgettable song (Pham Minh Tuan), Liberation of the South (Huynh Minh Sieng), Saigon girl goes to load ammunition (Lu Nhat Vu)...
In addition, the history of the troupe also bears the strong imprint of musicians and artists such as: Pham Minh Tuan, Vinh Bao, The Hai, Tran Mui, Phan Thao, Lu Nhat Vu, Ho Bong, Thanh Truc, Hoang Viet; composers: Thanh Nha, Muoi Don, Thanh Hien, Pham Ngoc Truyen, Ngoc Cung; directors: Bich Lam, Ngo Y Linh; choreographer Thai Ly; singer To Lan Phuong; dancers Minh Nguyet, Phi Yen; actors: Huynh Anh, Pham Minh Thu, Quoc Hoa, My Long, Vu Viet Cuong, Nguyen Huynh Sanh, Hoang Dung, Ho Thanh Quang, Huynh Thu, Hong Cuc, Trinh Hung, My Le, Huong Sen, Huynh Minh Tuan, Nguyen An Long...
One unified flow
As the writer of the publication Liberation Art Troupe R - A historical mark, poet Le Minh Quoc said: “This was an extremely difficult process, because there was almost no documentation about the Liberation Art Troupe R, because at that time, no one from the aunts, uncles, or brothers and sisters wrote it down. To get information, we had to meet and talk to witnesses, but the aunts and uncles are now old, do not remember much, or often remember details mixed up. Therefore, it took a lot of time to compare and verify the information...”.
Following the Liberation Art Troupe R - A historical mark, in the coming time, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City will organize and compile to continue launching publications on other fields such as: painting, literature, cinema... This activity is like a way to honor the contributions of the previous generation of artists, and at the same time to summarize 50 years of Ho Chi Minh City's literature and art after the country's reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
According to poet Le Minh Quoc, the special feature of the R Liberation Art Troupe is that its members come from all over: the Southwest, the Southeast, and then from the North... After 1975, they returned to their hometowns, so he had to go there to meet and talk. "I was lucky to be considered by the uncles and aunts as their children, so they were willing to share and support without any hesitation. And I also thought this was an opportunity for me to have the opportunity to learn about the revolutionary music and dance of the South, which has long been limited in terms of materials," poet Le Minh Quoc shared.
The active activities of the artists in the R Liberation Art Troupe have brought great significance, as the playwright Nguyen Ho stated: “The main stream of liberation art from the war zone, from the mountains and forests to the countryside is only one. It is the cultural element of the liberation art that has forged the sentiments and spirit of patriotism into a unified block. This explains why the American invaders and Saigon soldiers, despite conducting many operations and sweeps with the most modern and sophisticated guns and ammunition, including using psychological warfare methods, still could not pacify the South.”
