Cake factory that poisoned 28 students proposed to be fined 80 million

Specifically, the Department of Health of Thai Binh province proposed to administratively sanction Mr. Hoang Quyet Thang (34 years old, residing in An Ninh commune, Tien Hai district), owner of Trang Moon cake shop, for violating the regulations on importing, producing, processing, supplying, and selling food that caused food poisoning affecting the health of 5 people or more but not to the extent of criminal prosecution.

Students are treated in hospital

The fine proposed by the Thai Binh Provincial Department of Health is VND 80 million according to Decree 115/2018/ND-CP of the Government, which regulates administrative sanctions for violations of food safety.

In addition, additional fines and suspension of production, processing, trading and supply of salted egg sponge cake for 3 months.

According to the conclusion of the test results of the food samples suspected of causing poisoning for 28 students of Tien Hai Primary School on September 28, it was determined that the cause was salted egg sponge cake contaminated with staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

As Thanh Nien reported, at 4:00 p.m. on September 28, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department (Thai Binh Department of Health) received information from Tien Hai District Medical Center reporting a food poisoning incident in class 4A1 of Tien Hai Primary School (address: Tieu Hoang Street, Tien Hai Town, Tien Hai District).

The Food Safety and Hygiene Department immediately conducted an investigation. The results determined that 2 salted egg sponge cakes made by Trang Moon cake production facility (address Km 18, An Ninh commune, Tien Hai district) were purchased by class 4A1 of Tien Hai Primary School for the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 28.

In the class of 37 students, 28 students ate the cake, the remaining 9 students did not eat. After that, 28 students showed signs of stomachache, vomiting, diarrhea, fever and had to be hospitalized at Tien Hai District General Hospital; 3 students with mild symptoms were treated at home.
