National airline Vietnam Airlines (VNA) has just warned about fake pages of information about the airline's Run for Love race.
According to Vietnam Airlines, there are currently a number of fake fanpages on social media, using the name and images of the Run for Love race to defraud, illegally collect fees, and make illegal profits. These pages have illegally used the images, logos, and trademarks of the airline to report on the Run for Love race organized by Vietnam Airlines (the artistic creations and golden lotus images of Vietnam Airlines have been registered for protection at the Department of Intellectual Property).
Vietnam Airlines affirms that it does not open any separate pages about the race on social networks, the accounts and pages about the race are fake information. Therefore, the airline recommends that users need to be more vigilant and not make transactions with these fanpages. Information about the race will be officially updated only on the official fanpage of Vietnam Airlines.
Page impersonating Vietnam Airlines advertises race for profit
"Passengers need to be especially vigilant with sites of unknown origin to avoid being taken advantage of by bad guys to steal personal information or unintentionally assist in defrauding other users on the internet," Vietnam Airlines recommends.
This is not the first time running races have been impersonated for profit. Previously, Vietcombank said that on social networks, there were a number of fake fanpages impersonating Marathon races organized by Vietcombank to defraud and appropriate property of those who wanted to register.
These fanpages illegally used Vietcombank's logo, information and images of races organized or sponsored by this bank, along with false information to gain the trust of social network users. The scammers invited people to transfer money to register to participate.
The subjects can also lead the victims to join groups on messaging apps such as Zalo/Telegram and then instruct them to do "tasks" to enjoy more incentives such as free transportation and food at the race.
These tasks are often in the form of requests to buy sales products, transfer money to accounts under the names of legal entities or individuals, and then be promised an immediate refund... When the amount transferred is large enough, the scammers will block all contact with the victim.
Fake Vietcombank race page to lure people to pay fees or scam
Vietcombank affirms that it does not organize any races that charge participation fees. It recommends that customers and residents carefully study the information and absolutely do not follow instructions to transfer money to any account if the account holder's information and the purpose of the transfer have not been clarified.
In April 2024, Binh Dinh Provincial Police received a report from a victim who was scammed out of 30 billion VND when registering her two children to participate in a Marathon organized by a unit. The victim registered through a fake fanpage on social media and was lured into doing "tasks" to enjoy incentives from the sponsor of the race, then had her property appropriated by the scammers.
