On November 18, the Department of Environmental Education and Wildlife Rescue of U Minh Thuong National Park said that the unit had just received and cared for a "giant" python about 5 meters long and weighing nearly 100 kg, handed over by an organization in An Minh (An Giang).
After receiving it, the unit conducted a health check and then carefully and safely released it into a cage and fed it regularly. The python was identified as a ground python, belonging to group IIB and banned from illegal trading.
"What a huge python. It looks scary. Just lying down, it takes up an area of the cage. I rarely see a python this big," said Nguyen Trung Dan, a tourist from Ca Mau , in surprise.
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Hiep - a wildlife caretaker at U Minh Thuong National Park - said that the wildlife rescue area in U Minh Thuong National Park has an area of about 10 hectares and is rescuing and conserving nearly 200 wild animals such as pangolins, golden mountain tortoises, Siamese crocodiles, sen, coyotes, red-faced monkeys... including reticulated pythons and ground pythons.

This can be considered the first time the unit has received and cared for a python of such "huge" size.
To reach the weight of nearly 100kg, previous breeders also spent a lot of time. At the same time, in the wild, they can live 40-50 years to reach such an impressive weight.
"After receiving wild animals, the unit will monitor their health and if they are stable, they will be released back into the natural environment. In cases where the animals are domesticated, the unit will protect, care for, and carefully raise them to educate the environment, helping tourists learn more about biodiversity in U Minh Thuong National Park," said Mr. Hiep.
