On the evening of August 8, Quang Trach District Police, Quang Binh Province, said they had received an initial report on the incident in which many people suddenly had stomach aches, suspected to be due to food poisoning, after attending a wedding party.
As reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , on the morning of August 6, Mr. Tu Van Mau (residing in Quang Chau Commune, Quang Trach District) held a wedding for his son at the Tung Giang Village Cultural House. The number of guests was 580, mostly relatives in the village and friends of the homeowner from outside the locality.
Mr. Mau rented the LH wedding restaurant from Mr. Pham Van L. (residing in Quang Hop commune) to serve and prepare the dishes. The wedding menu had 11 dishes, including: seafood salad, steamed squid with ginger, shredded goat, pigeon porridge...
From the evening of the same day until the next morning, hundreds of people in Tung Giang village and many wedding guests suddenly experienced symptoms of stomachache, vomiting, diarrhea... Most of them were women and children. Many people then went to medical facilities to buy medicine to treat themselves at home.
The total number of people with stomach aches accounted for 50% of the wedding guests.
This afternoon, August 8, the People's Committee of Quang Hop commune established a working group to monitor food safety at LH food service establishments in the area.
At the time of inspection, the facility did not have legal documents related to food safety. The processing area did not meet the requirements according to regulations; the drainage system was not sealed and was still stagnant; the 3-step food inspection and sample storage were not performed according to regulations.
The working group requested the facility to temporarily suspend activities related to business and food services; at the same time, complete legal documents related to food safety.
