The news comes two months after Kate took a break from public life, with Kensington Palace explaining at the time that it was due to abdominal surgery, not cancer.
Big shock for Princess Kate of Wales
"In January, I had major abdominal surgery in London. At that time, the doctor determined that my condition was not cancer," said Princess Kate.
"Of course it's a huge shock," Kate said in a video announcement. She also thanked everyone for their messages and support as she recovered from surgery.

"It's been an incredibly difficult few months for our whole family, but I have an amazing medical team who have looked after me so well. I'm so grateful," said the wife of Britain's Prince William.
Tests after surgery showed that Kate had cancer. She was ordered to undergo preventive chemotherapy, and is currently in the early stages of that treatment.
The British princess also said that Prince William took time to explain the situation to their children, Prince George (10 years old), Princess Charlotte (8 years old) and Prince Louis (5 years old) before making the public announcement.
"As I have told the children, I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body and spirit. Having William by my side has been a great source of comfort and reassurance. As has the love, support and kindness shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both," the Princess of Wales said.
"We hope you will understand that as a family we need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. Work has always brought me deep joy and I look forward to returning when I can, but right now I must focus on making a full recovery," Kate added.
Kate concluded her post by saying: "My thoughts are with all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. To all those who are facing this disease, in any form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone."

British royal family faces many pressures
King Charles III is also being treated for cancer, Buckingham Palace announced in early February.
The update on Kate's health comes after she underwent successful abdominal surgery in January. Kate remained in a London hospital for 13 days following the surgery and, on medical advice, did not carry out public duties while she recovered.
Kate visited a farm shop with her husband near Windsor Castle a few days ago. Kensington Palace is not expected to reveal any further medical details, such as the type of cancer or the stage of the disease.
CNN quoted a royal source as saying that Kate began preventive chemotherapy at the end of February. Kate was expected to return to official duties after Easter. However, the source said she will now postpone further work until her medical team gives her the all-clear.
The source added that Prince William is balancing supporting his wife and children, while continuing to carry out his public duties.
