Speaking at a ceremony honoring weapons developers in Moscow on November 4, President Putin emphasized: "Our country does not threaten anyone. Like all other nuclear powers, Russia is developing its nuclear and strategic capabilities."
The Kremlin chief said the recent tests were "the result of long-announced projects" and this was "nothing surprising".
He pointed out that the Burevestnik nuclear cruise missile has unlimited range, while the Poseidon super torpedo has a speed many times superior to any modern surface warship.

Mr. Putin also revealed that Russia is continuing to develop a new generation of weapons with similar designs, including hypersonic and hypersonic cruise missiles using nuclear engines.
In front of the awardees, the Russian President affirmed: "The results that everyone has achieved are of historic significance for our nation. It will help ensure strategic balance and security for decades to come, one could say for the entire 21st century."
Besides the military value, Mr. Putin pointed out the huge civilian potential of these technologies. Small nuclear reactors can be used to build power plants in the Arctic or serve space exploration missions.
Burevestnik and Poseidon are two of six "super weapons" announced by President Putin in his 2018 state-of-the-nation address. They are expected to be pillars to help Russia consolidate its superpower status and maintain strategic balance with the US.
The final test of the Burevestnik missile was a success beyond expectations, Russian officials announced last month. On October 21, a missile flew more than 14,000 km in 15 hours, which Moscow described as an “invincible” weapon with unlimited range.
A week later, Russia continued to announce the successful testing of the Poseidon super torpedo. This weapon, essentially a small nuclear-powered unmanned submarine, reaches a speed of 130 km/h, is capable of diving to a depth of about 1,000 m and has a range of up to 10,000 km, enough to cross the North Atlantic.
Commenting on these moves, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized: "This is not a nuclear weapons test, but only aimed at developing defense systems."
