Thanh Hoa Electricity Company guides on safe use of electricity - preventing electrical accidents

I. Check, repair and install electrical systems

Installation of power supply systems in houses and buildings must meet technical standards on power systems in houses and buildings according to regulations of law on construction and technical standards on electrical engineering according to regulations of law on electricity.

Regularly check the safety of the power supply system from after the electricity meter to all wires and electrical equipment. Ensure safe height, do not obstruct traffic.

Organize repair and replacement of electrical wires and equipment that do not meet standards and quality.

Do not let electrical wires get flooded during the rainy season. Joints must be secure and covered with electrical tape.

Do not tie cord to metal objects or electrical signs.

The wire after the meter must be insulated, anchored with porcelain or specialized accessories.

II. Use standard electrical equipment and materials

Installation and use of electrical equipment and tools must ensure product and goods quality and comply with the manufacturer's instructions, preservation and maintenance.

When the demand for power usage increases compared to the registration, organizations and individuals using electricity must notify the electricity seller to have a suitable power supply plan.

Use insulated wire with large enough cross-section to avoid overloading to avoid the risk of short circuit and fire.

Install circuit breakers or switches at the main and branch lines.

Install circuit breakers and fuses before electrical outlets.

III. Behaviors to avoid

Do not use power plants for other purposes without the consent of the power plant management unit.

Do not climb electric poles or tie livestock to electric poles.

Do not install broadcasting antennas, clotheslines, scaffolding, cages, net houses, transformers, or advertising light boxes.

Do not fly kites, shoot fireworks, or throw foreign objects into power lines.

Do not carry out blasting, open mines; stack or store flammable and explosive substances, chemicals that can cause corrosion or can burn or damage parts of power projects.

Do not fish near power lines that cross ponds, lakes, rivers, or streams.

Do not touch outlets, circuit breakers, exposed or frayed wires.

Do not place electrical equipment that generates heat near flammable or explosive objects near the electrical panel.

IV. Responding to electrical incidents

When a short circuit or fire occurs in the power supply system in a house or building, the organization or individual using electricity is responsible for:

- Cut off the power, take measures to prevent the risk of fire spreading to other objects and equipment in the house or building; carry out rescue.

- Check the cause and fix the power supply system problem.

- In case the incident is beyond your ability to handle, you must promptly notify the relevant authorities.

When seeing broken wires, fallen poles, or flooding: turn off the circuit breaker supplying the flooded area and notify the nearest Electricity Company.

If you find a fallen wire: do not approach, keep at least 10m away from high voltage. Report immediately to the Electricity Company or call 19006769.

V. Safe distance from the power grid

When constructing structures near power lines, keep a minimum distance:

Voltage above 01-15kV: 0.7m

Voltage above 15 to 35kV: 1.0 m

Voltage above 35 to 110kV: 1.5m

Voltage 220kV: 2.5m

500kV voltage: 4.5m

When carrying out work near corridors or in the protection corridor of overhead power lines, do not allow equipment, tools, or vehicles to violate the safe distance for electrical discharge as follows:

Voltage above 01 kV to 35 kV: 2.0m distance

110kV voltage: 3.0m away

Voltage 220kV: 4.0 m

500kV voltage: 6.0 m

VI. Trees and objects near power lines

Do not plant tall, fast-growing trees under or near power lines.

Do not cut or prune trees near power lines - report to your local Electricity Authority.

Do not install antennas or advertising signs near power lines.

Please strictly follow the above rules to ensure safety for yourself, your family and the community.
