From early morning, it was raining in Hanoi , delegations of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, officers and soldiers of the armed forces, along with a large number of officers, party members, and people from all walks of life were present at the Funeral House to attend the funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong; expressing gratitude, respect and condolences to the leader who devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the Vietnamese people.

Lying in the most solemn position, in the middle of the ceremony platform, the coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong was covered with a bright red national flag. In front of the coffin of comrade Tran Duc Luong, above was the national flag with a black ribbon, prominently displaying the words "Deeply mourning comrade Tran Duc Luong, former member of the Politburo , former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" and his portrait.
In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, at exactly 7 o'clock, the funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong was solemnly held with the sad music "Soul of the Dead Soldier" in the background.
Comrade Nguyen Hoa Binh, Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Funeral Organizing Committee presided over the funeral program.

Before the official funeral took place, family members, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and relatives visited former President Tran Duc Luong.

Comrade Tran Duc Luong was born on May 5, 1937; hometown: Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho district (now Duc Pho town), Quang Ngai province; permanent residence: No. 298, Van Phuc street, Lieu Giai ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi city.
Comrade Tran Duc Luong joined the revolution in February 1955; joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on December 19, 1959; member of the Party Central Committee of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th terms; member of the Politburo of the 8th and 9th terms; member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the 8th term; Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers from February 1987 to September 1992; Deputy Prime Minister from October 1992 to August 1997; President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, 10th and 11th terms; National Assembly delegate of the 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th terms. After a period of serious illness, despite the Party, State, professors, doctors and nurses' devoted treatment and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and serious illness, comrade Tran Duc Luong passed away at 10:51 p.m. on May 20, 2025 (April 23, At Ty year), at his home, at the age of 88.
During more than 50 years of revolutionary activities, comrade Tran Duc Luong made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation; was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 65-year Party membership badge and many other noble orders, medals, awards and titles by the Party and the State. The passing of comrade Tran Duc Luong is a great loss to the Party, the State, our people and his family. To express condolences and commemorate comrade Tran Duc Luong, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold a state funeral for comrade Tran Duc Luong.
The Funeral Committee for Comrade Tran Duc Luong consists of 34 comrades, headed by Comrade Luong Cuong, Politburo member, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The funeral service for comrade Tran Duc Luong will be held at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, starting from 7:00 a.m. on May 24, 2025 to 7:00 a.m. on May 25, 2025. The memorial service for comrade Tran Duc Luong will be solemnly held at 7:00 a.m. on May 25, 2025 at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. The burial ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. the same day at the hometown cemetery, Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province.
At the same time, at the Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City and at the T50 Hall, Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command, No. 142 Le Trung Dinh, Quang Ngai City, the memorial service for comrade Tran Duc Luong also took place. During the 2 days of the State funeral for comrade Tran Duc Luong (May 24 and 25, 2025), agencies, offices, and public places will fly flags at half-mast and no entertainment activities will be organized.
