On the evening of December 23, at a house in an alley in Go Vap district, Mr. Nguyen Tan Tien (also known as Mr. Sau Tien) meticulously used glue to attach pieces of cans to assemble a model of an old Vespa.
Mr. Tien shared that he loves handicrafts. In the past few months, in addition to helping his wife sell breakfast, he has spent a lot of time on his hobby of making models of motorbikes, cyclos, and xe lam (three-wheeled vehicles) from beer and soft drink cans.
To make models, he bought cans from a nearby scrap collector. He cut the cans into many details and used glue to make car models. So far, he has made more than a dozen different model cars. Because he does it by hand, he can make about two motorbike models a day.
"You need to focus on gluing the glue precisely, a little difference will distort the product. At first, I made the model for fun, then I made a lot so I sold it to earn some money to get by at home" - Mr. Tien said.

When he has a satisfactory product, which is a car model made from cans, he sells it on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) near the book street, near the area next to Notre Dame Cathedral (District 1). The price of each car model is from 80,000 to 100,000 VND.
"Many domestic and foreign customers saw the car models I made and praised them for being beautiful and asked to take pictures. One guy asked if I could sell them to wholesalers, but I said I couldn't, because they were handmade and couldn't produce large quantities," said Mr. Tien.
"I make products and when customers are satisfied, I feel very happy. I am happy because customers appreciate my products" - Mr. Tien said and said he plans to make more house and villa models from cans.
