Tung climbs a mountain of narrative

Tung, one of the prominent artists of the Vietnamese indie scene, recently released the album To Leo a Mountain .

This is the artist's third album following 26: individualism (2020) and Summer Parade (2022).

Still carrying a rustic and narrative spirit, To climb a mountain is "upgraded" in terms of music production.

The way Tung "plays" with musical notes as well as his perspective on life shows that the independent path he is taking still has a lot of room ahead.

The album consists of 12 songs composed and performed by Tung himself. Three of them have been previously released by the artist, including Nguyen Toan, Giac Mo, and Put Your Heart on the Table .

If you follow long enough, you will see that in this album, Tung has completed songs that were previously posted as demos on SoundCloud such as August and Journey to include in this emotional reunion.

Tung also collaborated with Thinh Suy, author of the hit "A Drunk Night" in the final song "Choice" . Both composed and performed together, like a parallel opening up a mountain in the subconscious.

In the album, Tung collaborated with Nhac cua Trang (aka Ngo Minh Trang), Haketu (aka Ha Ke Tu, one of the famous names in the guitar community in Vietnam) in the arrangement.

He also invited Hanketu, Liem Hieu, Tran Viet Duong - multi-talented artists of the indie scene, who can play guitar, whistle and mandolin, creating many layers of sound, sometimes clear, sometimes high-pitched, sometimes melancholy and passionate.

Listening to To climb a mountain , the audience meets the acoustic guitar lines, defining the characteristics, revealing the narrative of this artist in his exploration of himself and the world . But compared to the previous sadness, this album also has joyful, bustling nuances, fluttering towards the light.

Tung said " To climb a mountain is not a manifesto", he was just writing down an obvious thing - something that anyone will sometimes forget. That is, everything is normal. And I don't need anything to climb a mountain. My job is to climb. So this journey is called "To climb a mountain".

Including sentences like "The wound seemed healed/ Looking in the mirror also seemed mature/... Then realized it all had no meaning and "sometimes we go/ Is a normal thing/ Sometimes just because of the journey...".

The journey that Tung mentioned is also an emotional journey that everyone who grows up goes through.

26: individualism is the story of a young boy, holding ambitions, dreams and memories in a rough wooden drawer with a small light on the hinge. Summer Parade is a new journey of discovery .

And To climb a mountain is simply a slow step with the normal developments of the boy with life. Tung and Tung's music are maturing more every day.
