Together with farmers to build modern and sustainable agriculture

Farmers - making miracles in the renovation period

At the meeting with 95 delegates, including 63 outstanding farmers and 32 agricultural scientists in October 2025, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that throughout the nation's journey, farmers have always been a strategic force, both food producers and creators, cultural preservers and developers, and the foundation of the great national unity bloc. Farmers are the ones who have made miracles in the renovation period, contributing to changing the nation's destiny.

According to Dr. Hoang Trong Thuy, an agricultural expert, before achieving these proud achievements, Vietnamese farmers have gone through a long and arduous journey. From the years of “not having enough food and clothes”, they have persevered, grasped the Party and State’s innovation policies, expanded production, developed household economy and constantly improved their material and spiritual life.

That rise is not only personal but also becomes a symbol of self-reliance; many farmers have built their careers from nothing with intelligence, creativity and hard work, becoming billionaires on their homeland; they not only enrich themselves but also create jobs and make positive contributions to the local community.

Evidence of this transformation is the 63 outstanding farmers honored in 2025 - representing more than 3.6 million good farmers and businessmen across the country. Many models achieve revenue of tens, even hundreds of billions of VND each year.

Typical among them is Mr. Ho Phi Thuy (An Giang) with a pearl farming model combined with eco -tourism on an area of 1,000 hectares of water surface, which has produced about 320,000 pearls each year, bringing in revenue from 95 to 150 billion VND; in Ca Mau, Mr. Nguyen Chi Linh, owner of a high-tech white-leg shrimp farming model, also achieved revenue of more than 90 billion VND each year.

No less impressive is Mr. Vo Van Son (Khanh Hoa) with the model of industrial shrimp farming combined with snail farming, achieving revenue of 40 billion VND/year; in Thai Nguyen, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien is successful with the model of tea production and export, bringing in more than 18 billion VND in revenue each year, contributing to bringing the Vietnamese tea brand to the international market.

From these success stories, expert Hoang Trong Thuy believes that farmers are the ones who "draw the path of innovation for the country" over the past 80 years. "Every successful crop, every fertile field contributes to the growth of the Fatherland."

Accompanying farmers for long-term development

Agriculture - farmers - rural areas continue to be identified as the development pillar to realize the two strategic goals of the next 100 years; this is not only the key production area, supplying food and raw materials, but also a large consumption market and a support for the national economy. The growth of this area contributes to ensuring food security, creating sustainable livelihoods, reducing poverty and promoting long-term stable development.

Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang affirmed that to build a modern, ecological and sustainable agriculture, we must first ensure a happy life, stable income and worthy social status for farmers - the central subject of the innovation process.

In the coming time, the ministry will focus on three major focuses. First , putting farmers at the center of the innovation process, creating conditions for them to grasp knowledge, master technology and confidently participate in the market.

Second , build a green - smart - humane agricultural ecosystem, in which the state plays a creative role, scientists disseminate knowledge, businesses expand the market, and farmers are the creative and beneficial subjects.

Third , foster the spirit of solidarity and aspiration to rise up, towards a cultured, unique, safe and livable countryside.

Minister Tran Duc Thang requested the entire sector to maintain open channels of interaction with farmers and businesses, ensuring that information is not “blocked” between management agencies and producers. The Ministry will be a true companion of farmers - thinking together, working together and benefiting together. The common goal is to build an agriculture with identity, brand, sustainable development and environmental responsibility.

Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Tung, former Director, Chairman of the Science and Training Council, Institute of Vietnamese Studies and Development Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), believes that major policies of the Party and State such as Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution 68-NQ/TW on private economic development and other resolutions will create more fundamental solutions for farmers in the coming time.
