Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with American friends.

On the afternoon of September 22 local time, at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a friendly meeting with American friends on the occasion of attending the High-level General Debate of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Attending the meeting were friends who have always been close to and wholeheartedly supported Vietnam in the struggle for national independence and reunification, made many efforts to heal and overcome the consequences of war, promote the normalization process, and strengthen and develop Vietnam-US relations over the years.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his joy and emotion at meeting again with friends who love and support Vietnam during his working trip to the United States. This is a regular activity of Vietnamese leaders whenever they visit the United States to express gratitude for the valuable support and assistance of American friends during the most difficult times.

The Prime Minister asked American friends to continue to motivate and inspire the younger generation and contribute more to fostering the Vietnam-US relationship.

The Head of Government shared that the Vietnam-US relationship has become a model in the history of international relations for reconciliation and cooperation between former enemies with remarkable developments since normalization in 1995, signing the Bilateral Trade Agreement in 2001, becoming a Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development in 2023 during President Joe Biden's State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam and the United States will continue to deepen cooperation across all 10 pillars of the new relationship framework, bringing benefits to the people of both countries and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world.

American friends were delighted to see Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh again after more than a year.

The Prime Minister asked American friends to continue to motivate and inspire the younger generation, contributing more to fostering the Vietnam-US relationship in the spirit of respecting each other's institutions and sovereignty, and as the US wishes for Vietnam to be "strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous" for peace, stability, and development in the world; and to coordinate with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations to organize people-to-people exchange activities to contribute to increasing understanding, friendship, and mutual respect between the people of the two countries.

American friends were delighted to see Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh again after more than a year, expressing their emotion that despite the Prime Minister's busy schedule within the framework of the High-level General Debate at the United Nations General Assembly and other bilateral and multilateral foreign affairs activities, he still took time to meet with American friends.

The US delegates congratulated Vietnam on its successes throughout history, especially its great achievements after 35 years of renovation, both domestically and internationally; they hoped and believed that Vietnam would continue to achieve even greater achievements in the cause of national construction and defense, and make more positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

In particular, many opinions emphasized that the recent historic visit of President Joe Biden to Vietnam (September 10-11) and the decision of the two countries' leaders to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership framework for peace, cooperation and sustainable development is a very important event in bilateral relations, while affirming the determination to have specific actions and plans to contribute to implementing the new relationship framework with substantive results.
