Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark is re-recognized for the period 2024-2027

On September 15, at the Closing Ceremony of the 8th Asia- Pacific UNESCO Global Geopark Network International Conference (APGN) in 2024 in Cao Bang province, the Global Geopark Network presented the Decision to re-recognize the title of "UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark" for the period 2024-2027 to Dak Nong Geopark.

The 8th APGN Conference was attended by about 800 delegates, including leaders from the Central Government, ministries, branches, localities, geoparks in the Asia-Pacific region and domestic and foreign scientists .

Representing Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark, comrade Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, Member of Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee received the Decision to re-recognize the title "Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark", period 2024-2027.

After more than 1 week, within the framework of the 8th APGN Conference, the Dak Nong Provincial Delegation participated in important events such as: the meeting of the Coordinating Board and Advisory Board of the Asia-Pacific Geopark Network; scientific seminars, presenting papers on "Geoparks and Sustainable Development Goals" with a lot of valuable information, documents, and experiences related to the work of preserving and promoting values ​​in global geoparks associated with sustainable development goals.

In addition, many meetings, cooperation agreements, memorandums of understanding, and twinning agreements between Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark and other geoparks in the region were also signed.

One of the special highlights within the framework of the 8th APGN Conference is the Program to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Global Geopark Network. The program is meant to connect and cooperate among members of the network for the goal of sustainable development of humanity.

At the closing ceremony of the conference, Dak Nong Geopark happily received the Decision to re-recognize the title of "Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark", new development stage 2024-2027.

The decision was adopted by the Global Geopark Council at its 8th Session, within the framework of the 10th Global Geopark Network Conference, taking place in the Kingdom of Morocco in 2023.

The decision to recognize the title of UNESCO Global Geopark Dak Nong, period 2024 - 2027 not only recognizes the efforts, will and determination of the government and people of Dak Nong province in the work of preserving and promoting the overall value of heritage types but also opens up opportunities to attract resources for sustainable socio-economic development of the locality.

Representatives of the Center for Investment Promotion, Enterprise Support and Management of Dak Nong Geopark and the World Heritage Management Board, Jeju Special Autonomous Province, Korea signed the twinning agreement.

The 8th APGN Conference was a great success. The conference provided useful solutions and experiences in building and developing the title of Geopark according to UNESCO criteria, contributing to solving current global challenges. At the same time, it enhanced the responsibility of local authorities and people in preserving and promoting the value of heritage types and natural resources for sustainable tourism development.
