VnExpressVnExpress15/03/2024

Quang Nam After the explosion, a rock weighing about 4 tons fell on Mr. Nguyen Minh Son's house in Thanh My town, Nam Giang district, causing the roof to collapse.

At 11am on March 15, Xuan Thanh Cement Company was blasting rocks. During the blast, a 2m long, 1.3m high rock rolled down from a 600m high mountain and hit Mr. Son's house.

The house was unoccupied so only property damage was reported. Part of the wooden house collapsed, many beams and columns were broken in half, and household items were scattered.

Mr. Son said that Xuan Thanh Cement Company often blasts rocks on the mountain top at 11am. Every time the blasts explode, rocks often roll down and damage crops. Nearly 60 households living at the foot of the mountain are always afraid that rocks will roll down and hit their houses.

After many petitions from the people, the local government built an embankment behind the house to prevent it, but the rocks still rolled over.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Chuong, Vice Chairman of Nam Giang District, said that the authorities and functional units have come to verify. A record of the damage has been made and will be reported to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Provincial People's Committee for inspection.

"The authorities ask people to be careful, stay away from the area where the rocks rolled, and ask Xuan Thanh Cement Company to temporarily stop quarrying until there is an official opinion from the province," said Mr. Chuong.
