TPO - Pickleball is a booming sport that has attracted many players in recent years. Da Nang now has a university that offers specialized training in pickleball.

Speaking with a reporter from Tien Phong newspaper, Dr. Duong Manh Thang, Vice Rector of Da Nang University of Physical Education and Sports, said that in the 2025-2026 academic year, the university will open many new majors, including Pickleball.

According to the school's leadership, in 2025 the school will be certified as meeting the accreditation standards for its training programs by the Center for Educational Quality Accreditation (Da Nang University). "After the accreditation is completed, the school will review and adjust the training programs and open several new majors, including pickleball. The demand for pickleball is also very high, so this major will serve and meet the needs of society," Dr. Thang informed.

Regarding the teaching staff, the school's leadership recognizes that pickleball is a combination of table tennis, badminton, and tennis. Teachers in these disciplines quickly adapt to pickleball, proactively learn, and have received international training and certifications in pickleball. Therefore, the school can ensure a qualified teaching staff for this new discipline.

Dr. Duong Manh Thang further shared that the Central and Central Highlands region has only one University of Physical Education and Sports, and this is the first specialized pickleball training course. Currently, there are nearly 20 students enrolled.

The training program focuses on playing tactics, pedagogical methods, competition techniques, competition organization, sports event management, community development, etc., to meet societal needs.

In March 2025, Da Nang established the Pickleball Federation. Based on the federation's proposal and suggestions from various units and schools regarding the implementation of pickleball, the Department of Education and Training requested that all units and schools launch a movement to practice and compete in pickleball among all officials, civil servants, employees, and students.
