Heavy rain that lasted all day caused many residential areas in Da Nang to be deeply flooded. On the evening of October 13, in the residential area on Me Suot Street (Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District), which is considered the flood center of Da Nang, there was a vast amount of water, some places were flooded more than 1 meter deep.
To ensure safety, at night, the Lien Chieu District Military Command, special forces of Military Region 5 and mobile police of Da Nang City Police assisted people in evacuating from the dangerous area.
This area has many dormitories for workers and students. At night, the authorities carry lifebuoys and go deep into the alleys, blowing whistles to let people know and help evacuate outside.
Speaking with VietNamNet late on October 13, Mr. Bui Trung Khanh - Chairman of Hoa Khanh Nam Ward (Lien Chieu District) said that functional forces had evacuated about 5,000 people in low-lying areas such as Me Suot, Hoang Van Thai... to safety.
People are temporarily staying in high areas to wait for the water to recede. The government will provide food and necessities to the people.
On the same evening, Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City inspected flooded areas in Lien Chieu and Thanh Khe districts.
At the inspection points, Mr. Le Trung Chinh directed the authorities to evacuate people to safety depending on the actual situation.
At the same time, units and localities are reminded about flood prevention work, ensuring safety for people in Khe Can area, Thanh Khe district and Me Suot road, Lien Chieu district in the face of heavy rain forecast to continue. Functional forces strictly arrange 24/24h duty, receive and synthesize information promptly to report to the standing agency of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of the city to deploy forces to handle possible situations.
According to the report of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Da Nang City, very heavy rain in a short period of time, especially from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on October 13, caused landslides at Km 905 of Hai Van Pass and many flooded areas in low-lying areas with a depth of 30-50 cm, some places were 0.8-1 m deep.
Specifically, according to statistics from localities, Thanh Khe district has 13 flooded areas, Lien Chieu district has 46 areas, Cam Le district has 14 areas, Son Tra district has 21 areas, and Hai Chau district has 29 areas.
