Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry contributes 4.32 billion VND, exempts tuition fees for students in flood-affected areas

'Storms and floods are causing severe devastation in the central provinces. Every tragic image that appears makes us choke up, we just wish to join hands, even with the smallest things,' Associate Professor Dr. Phan Hong Hai, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, shared.

On the morning of November 24, Associate Professor Dr. Phan Hong Hai and staff and lecturers of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry donated more than 4.32 billion VND to Tuoi Tre newspaper to support people who are suffering heavy losses due to storms and floods in the Central region.

Join hands to support people in flood-hit areas to soon overcome losses

Mr. Hai said that in the face of unprecedented losses of life and property caused by storms and floods, since November 20, the school has mobilized all staff, workers and students to join hands to support.

"When we see houses submerged in floodwaters, old people and children shivering in the cold rain, we understand that the pain is not only of the people in the Central region, but is the common pain of all of us. Therefore, every contribution, no matter how small, can light up hope for people to overcome the disaster," Mr. Hai shared.

In just a short time, thousands of officers and employees of the school contributed a day's salary, along with many other personal donations on the anniversary of November 20, demonstrating the spirit of mutual love and support towards the Central region.

The money raised came from the staff, civil servants, workers and a part of the support from the school's Career Development Fund. For the school, this is not only material support, but also a sincere sharing sent to the people who are suffering from natural disasters.

"This is the sincere wish of the school community. We know that Tuoi Tre newspaper always accompanies and organizes many charity and relief programs professionally and promptly. Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry puts all its trust in sending the entire amount of money raised through the newspaper. We hope that this support will help people overcome their loss and stabilize their lives," Mr. Hai added.

Committed to not letting any student interrupt their studies due to difficulties

Not only focusing on the community, the school also pays special attention to students whose families are affected by storms and floods, committing to accompany them so that no student has to interrupt their studies due to difficulties.

Dr. Le Ngoc Son, Chairman of the School's Trade Union, shared: "Seeing the people of Central Vietnam struggling to cope with storms and floods, we cannot stand aside. A day's salary may be small, but when the whole collective joins hands, it will be a great source of encouragement."

Ms. Pham Ngoc Kim Khanh, lecturer of the Faculty of Business Administration, emotionally confided: "Many students have families in flood-hit areas, their parents have lost their livelihoods, and their houses have been damaged. They have to worry about their families and their studies. Therefore, the school's support policy, especially the tuition extension, is really meaningful. It is a practical encouragement to help students feel secure in overcoming the most difficult period."

The school's Office of Political Affairs and Student Support has announced that it will accept applications for tuition fee extensions for the second semester of the 2025-2026 school year starting from November 24, in order to promptly encourage students whose families suffered losses in the storm and flood.

Student Truong Thanh Binh, a student of tourism commerce, from Dak Lak (formerly Phu Yen ), choked up: "My family was swept away by the flood. When I learned that the school allowed an extension of tuition fees, I felt relieved. This is extremely timely support for us to continue studying."

Student Le Van Tri, Faculty of Information Technology, added: "Not only providing financial support, the school also connects with philanthropists to help us overcome difficulties. We clearly feel that the school always accompanies students, especially in the most difficult times."

Sharing that lasts through the years

At the reception, Mr. Le The Chu, Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper, expressed his deep gratitude to the school's board of directors and all staff, lecturers and employees for their noble gesture.

He shared: "These days, when the loss of the people in the Central region makes the whole country's hearts ache, the timely cooperation of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry not only spreads compassion but also adds practical resources to help people overcome natural disasters soon. We will soon bring the school's contribution as quickly as possible to the people in the Central region to contribute to rebuilding and restoring people's lives...".

For many years, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry has always accompanied Tuoi Tre newspaper in community support programs. In 2024, the school donated more than 3,656 billion VND to people in the northern flood-affected areas.

In 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the school mobilized staff to contribute one day's salary to fight the pandemic; at the same time, it donated 500 million VND to the COVID-19 Prevention Fund launched by Tuoi Tre newspaper and donated a PCP-Realtime testing machine worth about 1.1 billion VND.

In addition, every year the school awards dozens of scholarships to disadvantaged students, continuing to foster the spirit of sharing that has become a beautiful tradition of the school.
