In 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will use 3 admission methods including talent selection (XTTN), thinking assessment test scores (TSA) and high school graduation exam scores.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology applies the Percentile Equating method to find equivalent benchmark scores between the three methods above. In addition, the university also conducts statistics and analyzes admission data of the past three years, different admission combinations, analyzes the XTTN score distribution by subject, the TSA test score distribution, the high school graduation exam score distribution with the original combination A00 (Math - Physics - Chemistry) to serve as a basis for determining the relative percentile range. On that basis, the university has built a correlation percentile table between admission methods.

Percentile table of correlation between admission methods of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Accordingly, the top % of high school graduation exam scores is calculated based on the total score of the original admission combination of A00 for candidates with scores from the floor score to the highest score (30 points).

Top % of XTTN 1.2 and 1.3 scores are calculated based on the total number of candidates with scores according to the XTTN method from the floor score to the highest score (100 points).

The Top % TSA score is calculated based on the total number of candidates with TSA scores from the minimum score to the highest score (100 points).

The floor score is announced annually by Hanoi University of Science and Technology. For high school graduation exam score combinations other than the original combination A00, Hanoi University of Science and Technology calculates based on the corresponding difference scores announced by the Ministry of Education and Training along with the high school graduation exam scores.

From the correlation table with specific percentile score range values, interpolation of the conversion function between different admission methods will be performed.

Accordingly, the benchmark score x in the percentile range [a, b) of this admission method will be interpolated to the benchmark score y in the percentile range [c, d) corresponding to another admission method according to the following formula:

Regarding the calculation of equivalent benchmark scores for 2024 data, Hanoi University of Science and Technology based on 2024 enrollment data and student learning outcomes, the benchmark score correlation table is determined as follows:

Illustration of how to calculate equivalent standard point conversion.

For example, in 2024, the benchmark for Microelectronics Engineering and Nanotechnology according to the TSA scoring method is 71.68 points (x = 71.68). Thus, this benchmark will be in the 3rd percentile (about 3), with a GPA value of [68.55 - 74.77]. At that time, the equivalent benchmark for high school graduation exam scores will be in the corresponding percentile (about 3), with a high school graduation exam value of [27.14 - 28.04].

From there, the corresponding conversion coefficients will be determined as follows: a = 68.55; b = 74.77; c = 27.14; d = 28.04. Applying the interpolation formula to calculate the standard score equivalent to the high school graduation exam score y from the standard score of the DGTD x = 71.68 will be calculated as follows:

Parents and candidates can look up more information about equivalent benchmark conversion levels for the 2024 enrollment data of Hanoi University of Science and Technology for reference at https://tsbkhn.shinyapps.io/QuyDoi-2024BK.

2025 is the first year that the Ministry of Education and Training requires equivalent conversion of input thresholds and admission scores of admission methods and combinations according to the Ministry's general instructions.
