Ho Chi Minh City National University announces sample exam questions for the 2025 aptitude test.

The 2025 aptitude test of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City consists of 120 multiple-choice questions. Candidates will take the test on paper, with a time limit of 150 minutes.

The structure of the competency assessment test has been adjusted to align with the new general education curriculum. The school will retain the structure of the Language Use and Mathematics sections, while increasing the number of questions in these two sections to enhance the reliability and discrimination of the test.

The Logic - Data Analysis and Problem Solving section has been restructured into the Scientific Thinking component to assess candidates' ability in logic and scientific reasoning when solving real-world situations in the fields of science, technology, economics , and society.

The questions in the Scientific Reasoning section are designed to provide information, data, facts, experimental plans, and experimental results, thereby requiring candidates to demonstrate their ability to understand and apply information, determine experimental results, and predict patterns.

The exam results are determined using a modern multiple-choice test based on question response theory. Each question has a different weighting depending on its difficulty.

The maximum score for the exam is 1200 points, in which the maximum score for each component of the exam is shown on the score sheet as follows: Vietnamese (300 points), English (300 points), Mathematics (300 points) and Scientific Thinking (300 points).

According to the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, the structure and content of the 2025 aptitude test will have many similarities with international standardized tests such as: the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) of the United States; the Psychometric Entrance Test (PET) of Israel and the General Aptitude Test (GAT) of Thailand…

This exam aims to assess students' overall abilities, helping universities and colleges select suitable candidates. At the same time, the exam ensures fairness, creating equal opportunities in accessing higher education for all candidates, even those who chose different subjects in high school.

The aptitude test has been organized by the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) since 2018. In 2024 alone, the exam expanded to 26 provinces/cities, attracting nearly 107,000 participants (more than 21 times the number in 2018) and was used by over 100 universities and colleges for admissions. The exam helped VNU-HCM recruit over 9,200 students, accounting for more than 38% of its 2024 enrollment target.
