From an industry newspaper, Cong Thuong Newspaper has affirmed its pioneering role in policy communication, reflecting economic realities and connecting Vietnam with the world.

In a conversation with a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Vinh, an experienced diplomat with a deep connection to the field of economic diplomacy, shared many comments about the specialized newspaper Industry and Trade Newspaper - the mouthpiece of the Ministry of Industry and Trade .

Economic newspaper with historical depth

Nearly 80 years ago - on October 2, 1945, Minister of National Economy Nguyen Manh Ha signed and issued Decree No. 08-BKT/VP on the reorganization of the Ministry of National Economy, the predecessor of today's Ministry of Industry and Trade. In which, the Economic Review Department was established, with the task of publishing Vietnam Economic Review. This is the publication considered the first predecessor of the current Industry and Trade Newspaper.

Decree 08-BKT/VP of the Minister of National Economy signed by Minister of National Economy Nguyen Manh Ha, in which Article IV stipulates that there are three departments: Department of Journal Economics, responsible for publishing Vietnam Economic Journal.

Since then, along with the process of change, separation and restructuring of the industry management ministries, the press agencies under their management have also been adjusted many times to suit the management model and the country's development practices. The Industry and Trade Newspaper has also gone through many stages of transformation, with different names before officially launching the first issue under the banner "Industry and Trade" on April 1, 2008.

Sharing with reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025) and also on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Industry and Trade Newspaper (October 2, 1945 - October 2, 2025), former Deputy Minister Pham Quang Vinh frankly commented: "Not many industry newspapers have the historical depth like the Industry and Trade Newspaper. From a publication with the mission of disseminating national economic knowledge, the Newspaper has now become one of the specialized press agencies with a strong voice on economics, integration and sustainable development".

Not only is it the mouthpiece of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Industry and Trade Newspaper has gradually affirmed its position as a national specialized press with a team of journalists who are trained, updated with knowledge of Industry and Trade policies, and are sensitive to market practices and global trends.

As the former Head of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Negotiation Delegation and Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States for many years, former Deputy Minister Pham Quang Vinh shared his perspective on the role of the media in the country's international integration.

He shared: “The Industry and Trade Newspaper is not only an industry newspaper but also a place to reflect a responsible voice on the national economy. The newspaper has done a good job of analyzing, warning and even suggesting policies from practice. That is a very valuable value in the context where the press needs to go hand in hand with the country's development.”

“In the context of fierce competition in the world, specialized press such as the Industry and Trade Newspaper must have vision, expertise and high reliability. I appreciate the newspaper's timely reflection on issues such as FTAs, supply chain disruptions, etc. This is not only information but also a responsible warning,” Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh emphasized .

Since 2022, with a deep awareness of historical values, the leaders of Cong Thuong Newspaper have proactively reviewed, researched documents, organized seminars and determined the traditional day of the newspaper as October 2, 1945.
