On the morning of June 2, at the Presidential Palace in the capital Port Louis, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin presented her credentials to President of the Republic of Mauritius Dharambeer Gokhool.

The ceremony took place in a solemn and respectful atmosphere. After the ceremony, President Dharambeer Gokhool warmly received the Ambassador.

At the reception, President Dharambeer Gokhool sent best wishes to senior leaders of Vietnam, affirming that Mauritius always values ​​and wishes to promote the traditional and friendly cooperative relationship with Vietnam.

Expressing his impression of Vietnam's achievements in economic and social development and comprehensive international integration in recent years, President Dharambeer Gokhool hoped that the cooperation between the two countries would have new and substantial developments, especially in economics, trade, investment, tourism, education, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, etc.

President Dharambeer Gokhool hopes that the cooperation between the two countries will have new and substantial developments in the future, especially in economics, trade, investment, tourism, education, agriculture , pharmaceuticals, etc.

The President highly appreciated Vietnam's experience in aquaculture and seafood export, and suggested that the two countries study and strengthen cooperation, exchange, and share experiences and successful lessons in this field.

With its strategic geographical location, political stability, attractive fiscal and tariff policies for foreign investors, and a system of Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements (DTAs) and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with many countries and regions, especially in Africa, Mauritius can act as a strategic gateway to the African continent for Vietnamese businesses.

Appreciating the good results of bilateral cooperation and mutual support at international forums, President Dharambeer Gokhool thanked Vietnam for always supporting Mauritius' efforts in legal and diplomatic struggles related to Mauritius' sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago.

The President also said that Mauritius is considering supporting Vietnam's candidate for the position of Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS).

Congratulating Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin on her appointment as Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Mauritius, President Dharambeer Gokhool expressed his hope that the Ambassador will actively discuss with Mauritius authorities, implement specific initiatives, and make positive contributions to the development of Vietnam-Mauritius bilateral relations.

Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin respectfully conveyed the regards and congratulations of President Luong Cuong to President Dharambeer Gokhool on the occasion of the new President's inauguration, and invited the President to visit Vietnam in the near future.

Affirming that Vietnam attaches importance to developing cooperative and friendly relations with Mauritius, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin hopes that the two countries will continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the International Organization of La Francophonie, the Non-Aligned Movement, etc.

The Ambassador also congratulated Mauritius on reaching a historic agreement with the UK, in which the UK recognized Mauritius’ full sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago. The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam always upholds the fundamental principles of international law, including the United Nations Charter and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), considering them the foundation for international stability and peace.

Expressing her honor to assume the responsibility of Vietnamese Ambassador to Mauritius, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin affirmed that in her assigned position, she will make every effort to contribute to promoting the good friendship in many aspects between the two countries, focusing on areas such as trade, investment, finance, energy, agriculture, aquaculture, etc.

On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed his hope that the President and Government of Mauritius will continue to pay attention to and support the Vietnamese community to live, study and work in Mauritius, contributing to strengthening the friendly relations between the people of the two countries.

On the same day, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Minister for Trade and Consumer Protection John Michael Tzoun Sao Yeung Sik Yuen and Minister for Financial Services and Economic Planning Jyoti Jeetun.

At the meetings, the two sides agreed to implement specific measures to facilitate businesses of the two countries to explore the market and seek investment and business opportunities, thereby enhancing trade and financial services exchanges between the two countries.

Mauritius is an island nation located in the southern part of the Indian Ocean, considered the financial center of the South Saharan Africa region with strengths in financial services, tourism... According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mauritius' GDP reached 15.5 billion USD, and the average income per capita reached more than 12.3 thousand USD.

Vietnam and Mauritius established diplomatic relations in 1994, with great potential for cooperation between the two sides. However, trade between the two countries is still modest (Vietnam exported about 100 million USD worth of goods to Mauritius, and imported about 20 million USD from Mauritius in recent years).
