The meeting was attended by comrade Hoang Binh Quan, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Head of the Central External Relations Commission; former leaders of the Commission; Retired Liaison Committee of the Central External Relations Commission; Executive Board of the Retired Club of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ; representatives of functional units and units receiving cadres after the merger.
At the meeting, representatives of the Department of Organization and Personnel ( Ministry of Foreign Affairs ) informed about the implementation of organizational work, policies and support activities for retired cadres to ensure their rights and create conditions for cadres to continue contributing to the diplomatic sector.
Speaking at the event, Permanent Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed that the merger of the Central External Relations Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a historic event, not only a rearrangement of the organizational apparatus but also demonstrating the spirit of inheritance, attachment and promotion of the precious traditions of the two core agencies in the foreign affairs work of the Party and State.
“From now on, the retired staff of the two agencies will also become one, under the same roof, creating favorable conditions for gratitude, connection and continuing to promote the role of the previous generation in the foreign affairs and diplomacy sector,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
On behalf of the Ministry’s leadership and the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu sent greetings and deep gratitude to generations of officials of the Central External Relations Commission – those who have made important contributions to the foreign affairs cause over the past 75 years. The Deputy Minister affirmed that today’s generation of diplomatic officials will continue to inherit and promote the valuable baggage of their predecessors, contributing to building a comprehensive, modern and professional diplomacy.

Regarding the merger process over the past three months, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu said that the reception of the organization, personnel and tasks from the Central Foreign Affairs Commission has basically been completed. In the context of increasingly demanding foreign affairs work, the support and experience sharing of retired cadres will continue to be a valuable resource for the sector.
Emphasizing the tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source”, the Deputy Minister recalled the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Retirement Club in 1991 – an initiative of former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Nguyen Co Thach – as a testament to the industry’s respect for the previous generation. The Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs hopes that retired officials will continue to accompany, share experiences, and contribute to the industry’s policy-making process.
On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu also informed about the series of activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Diplomatic Sector (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025), affirming that this is an opportunity to show gratitude and honor the contributions of generations of foreign affairs officers, including comrades from the Central Foreign Affairs Commission.

Speaking at the meeting, former member of the Party Central Committee and former Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission Hoang Binh Quan expressed his emotion and joy at being able to attend this meaningful event. He also emphasized that the merger is a correct step, in line with the Party's major policy, opening up opportunities to promote the combined strength of the three foreign affairs pillars of the Party - State - People.
Comrade Hoang Binh Quan shared that over the past 75 years, generations of officials of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission have always been loyal and steadfastly devoted to the cause of foreign affairs. Being integrated into the common home of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is an honor and also a great responsibility to continue contributing wisdom and experience to the industry.
Affirming his trust in the young generation, the former Head of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission expressed his wish to continue to accompany and contribute to the development of the diplomatic sector to meet the requirements of tasks in the new period.
Speaking at the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu expressed his belief that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Retirees Club will continue to be a warm common home, connecting generations, inspiring and motivating the Vietnamese foreign affairs sector to continue to reach out, worthy of the trust and love of the Party, State and People.
