Strengthening Vietnam-Mauritius relations in the coming time

Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin suggested that Vietnam and Mauritius promote cooperation in potential areas such as trade, agriculture, aquaculture, financial services, tourism, etc.

On June 3-4, during her working visit to the Republic of Mauritius, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin paid a courtesy call to President of the Mauritius National Assembly Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra; Minister of Foreign Affairs , Regional Cooperation and International Trade Dhananjay Ramful; worked with Director of the Mauritius Economic Development Authority Mahen Abhimanu Kundasamy and a number of local businesses and met with members of the Vietnamese community in Mauritius.

At the meeting with President of the Mauritian National Assembly Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin respectfully conveyed the greetings and congratulations of President of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man to Ms. Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra on the occasion of her election as President of the National Assembly in November 2024.

Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin asked National Assembly Speaker Mahen Abhimanu Kundasamy to continue to pay attention to and support the Government and agencies of Mauritius in promoting cooperative and friendly relations with Vietnam, creating a favorable legal framework for Vietnamese and Mauritian enterprises to explore the market, seek investment and business opportunities, and for the Vietnamese community in Mauritius to feel secure in living and doing business, actively contributing to the development of the locality as well as people-to-people exchange between the two countries.

The Ambassador hopes that parliamentary cooperation between the two countries will continue to be strengthened in the coming time, through delegation exchanges, contacts between high-ranking leaders and all levels, and mutual support at multilateral forums.

President of the Mauritian National Assembly Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra highly appreciated the activities of the Vietnamese National Assembly in recent times, affirmed her readiness to support the two legislative bodies in strengthening cooperation and friendship, and hoped to soon have the opportunity to meet and exchange with the leaders of the Vietnamese National Assembly at multilateral forums in the near future such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Francophone Parliamentary Union (APF)...

In an exchange with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and International Trade Dhananjay Ramful, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin informed about Vietnam's policies, achievements in socio-economic development, foreign affairs and international integration.

The Ambassador also highly appreciated the friendship and good cooperation between Vietnam and Mauritius in recent times, from high political trust to positive cooperation results in economics, trade, investment and mutual support at international forums, and suggested that the two sides promote cooperation in potential areas such as trade, agriculture, aquaculture, financial services, tourism, etc.

On this occasion, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin also asked Mauritius to support Vietnam's candidate at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS).

Minister Dhananjay Ramful agreed with the Ambassador's proposals and recommendations to strengthen the Vietnam-Mauritius bilateral relationship in the coming time.

Thanking Vietnam for supporting Mauritius regarding the Chagos Archipelago, Minister Dhananjay Ramful said Mauritius would positively consider supporting Vietnam's candidacy at ITLOS.

The Minister also proposed that Vietnam consider visa exemption for Mauritius citizens on the principle of reciprocity to promote tourism, people-to-people exchange, explore investment and business opportunities in Vietnam, and soon restart negotiations on the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.

At the working session with Director of the Mauritius Economic Development Authority Mahen Abhimanu Kundasamy, the two sides discussed the potential, strengths and needs of each country in specific areas such as investment, trade, finance, agriculture, aquaculture, renewable energy, electronic products, textiles, etc.

The two sides affirmed that businesses are increasingly interested in and exploring investment and business opportunities in each country, considering Vietnam and Mauritius as important gateways to access Asian and African markets.

Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin also answered questions and provided information on procedures and policies to Mauritian businesses wishing to develop in Vietnam.

During the working trip, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin met with the Vietnamese community in Mauritius. In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the Ambassador was moved to meet the Vietnamese people in the remote island nation and listen to their sharing and opinions. She was happy to see that our people have a stable life, integrate well into the local community and maintain solidarity and cohesion in the community.

The Ambassador affirmed that the Party and State always care about the Vietnamese community abroad, considering the community an inseparable part of the flesh and blood, an important resource of the nation.

Despite the great geographical distance and difficulties in traveling, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mozambique, concurrently in Mauritius, will always be a spiritual support and a common home, ready to support people in resolving consular procedures, citizen protection, and coordinate with Mauritius authorities to create favorable conditions for people to stabilize their legal status and integrate well into the local society.

The Ambassador hopes that the Vietnamese community in Mauritius will always promote the spirit of solidarity, national pride, turn towards the homeland, contribute to the development of the country, promote the good values ​​of the nation, and preserve the Vietnamese language for future generations.

On the occasion of International Children's Day (June 1), Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin presented gifts and some Vietnamese language books to children in the community.
