Vietnam-Australia cooperate closely in preventing human trafficking and transnational crimes

Ambassador Lynn Bell highly appreciated the Vietnam-Australia relationship in all fields as well as the close cooperation between the two countries in preventing human trafficking and transnational crime.

On June 4, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam received Ms. Lynn Bell, Australian Ambassador against Human Trafficking and Transnational Crime at the Embassy.

Also attending were Deputy Director of Operations of the Australian Border Force and representatives of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs .

Ambassador Lynn Bell highly appreciated the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in general and the close cooperation between the two countries in combating human trafficking and transnational crime in particular; especially the close and effective coordination between the Australian Border Force and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on procedures for receiving back Vietnamese citizens between the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection and the Ministry of Public Security signed in 2016.

Expressing gratitude to the Vietnamese authorities for coordinating with the Australian side to promptly handle related incidents, especially illegal immigration activities, Ms. Lynn Bell emphasized the need to share information, coordinate investigations against human trafficking crimes, as well as the importance of detecting and warning about fraudulent tricks, including bringing victims to Australia by sea and "promising" to ensure entry visas and jobs in Australia.

For his part, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam highly appreciated the close coordination between the Australian Border Force, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia in preventing human trafficking, especially in the context of strong development of tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchange between the two countries.

Ambassador Pham Hung Tam also thanked Ms. Lynn Bell for updating on the recent situation of cooperation in preventing human trafficking between the two countries, and appreciated the Australian Border Force for maintaining a hotline and promptly informing the Embassy about cases of human trafficking and illegal entry involving Vietnamese citizens.

Affirming that the Embassy always gives high priority to citizen protection, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam requested that the Ambassador and the Australian Border Force continue to regularly exchange and closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia in handling related issues.
