To block this important position, in Duc Lap, the enemy built solid, sturdy fortifications, dense obstacles, a field helicopter airport and a commando training school located in the area of Dak Sak commune, Dak Mil district today.
In March 1975, implementing the Politburo 's determination to liberate the South in 1975, the Central Military Commission's Standing Committee met to discuss and decided to launch the Central Highlands campaign, and Duc Lap was chosen as the starting point and key to attack and liberate Buon Ma Thuot.
At 5:55 a.m. on March 9, 1975, our main force Division 10 and Division 316 coordinated with local troops and guerrilla forces to simultaneously open fire on Duc Lap district town.
During the offensive to liberate Duc Lap, our army destroyed and disintegrated most of the enemy troops, captured 100 soldiers, and seized 4 artillery pieces, 20 tanks, and enemy armored vehicles.
The victory at Duc Lap broke the enemy's western defense line of Buon Ma Thuot town, thereby opening a strategic corridor, creating favorable conditions for our army to capture Buon Ma Thuot town.
At the same time, the victory of Duc Lap also created momentum for the victory of the Central Highlands Campaign, leading to the General Offensive and Uprising of our army and people, completely liberating the South and unifying the country.
Promoting the spirit of Duc Lap victory (March 9, 1975), over the past 49 years, with synchronous policies and determination of all levels, sectors and the entire people, Dak Mil district has achieved outstanding achievements in all political, economic , cultural and social fields.
In 2023, the economic growth of GRDP of Dak Mil district will reach 9.3%. Average income per capita will reach nearly 70 million VND/person/year. The whole district currently has only 470 poor households, accounting for 1.68%.
The appearance of Dak Mil urban center has undergone many significant changes. The inner-city roads of Dak Mil town have been paved and have electric lighting systems, sidewalks, and drainage ditches. The urban landscape has changed towards green, clean, and beautiful. Up to now, on average, each commune of Dak Mil district has achieved 18.3 criteria; 7/9 communes have met the new rural standards.
Chairman of Dak Mil District People's Committee Le Van Hoang shared that currently, the Party Committee, government and people of Dak Mil district are making efforts, making breakthroughs, and realizing the goal of bringing the district to meet new rural standards and becoming a town by 2025.
Of the 10 criteria for establishing a town, Dak Mil has now completed 7 criteria, including: population size; natural area; commune-level administrative units; average income per capita; economic growth rate (last 3 years); poverty rate, proportion of industry, construction and services in the economic structure; proportion of non-agricultural labor in the inner city.
With synchronous policies and determination of all levels, sectors and people, we believe that in the coming time, Dak Mil district will achieve outstanding achievements in all political, economic, cultural and social fields.
