Ensuring safety when Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant closes the bottom spillway

After 39 hours of flood discharge (from 2:00 p.m. on November 20), Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant closed one bottom spillway gate at 5:00 a.m. on November 22. That is the announcement of Hoa Binh Hydropower Company on the operation of the hydropower reservoir according to the issued procedures.

The water level downstream of the Da River is decreasing rapidly as the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant closes the bottom spillway. Organizations and individuals operating on the river and along the river need to pay attention to safety measures.

Accordingly, at 10:00 p.m. on November 21, the water level of Hoa Binh Lake was at 116.77 m, the water flow to the lake was 1,619 m ³ /s. Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant generated electricity through 8 generators, the total water flow discharged to the downstream was 3,899 m ³ /s.

After closing the bottom spillway, the total water flow discharged downstream decreased rapidly, from 3,899m ³ /s to 2,100m ³ /s; the water level downstream of Hoa Binh Hydropower Dam also decreased rapidly from 12.74m.

Therefore, to ensure safety for the downstream area, Hoa Binh Hydropower Company informs agencies, units, and local authorities to know, coordinate, and direct relevant units to have response plans and adjust operations appropriately.
