According to the director of Ghost Lights , this new project was inspired by a famous photo taken by war correspondent Ronald Haeberle on March 16, 1968 - the exact time the My Lai massacre took place.

Among the approximately 60 photos he took with two cameras, there was a special photo capturing the moment a little boy was holding a smaller baby to shield him, on the edge of a rice field. This photo, called “The boy tries to shield his sister from bullets,” is currently on display at the Son My Memorial Site (Tinh Khe Commune, Quang Ngai City).
Director Hoang Nam said he was deeply moved when he saw this photo, and from there he wanted to make a story about a slice of war. Set in Quang Ngai in 1968, My Lai Baby will revolve around the life and death journey of a boy who witnessed his family and beloved village engulfed in the flames of war.
The film is inspired by the My Lai incident, delving into the human condition as well as passionate patriotism in a tragic scene. “The film will be an emotional journey of the two main characters’ brothers and their desire to keep what is familiar to them,” he said.

Sharing more about the meaning of the project, director Hoang Nam said that the film not only recreates historical events, but is also the voice of children who were deprived of their childhood, family and homeland during the war.
Even though they are small and weak, they still have the desire to protect their loved ones and their homes. He wants the film to convey a strong message of peace from Vietnam to the world .
Currently, the project is in the script development and location survey phase in Quang Ngai. Director Hoang Nam is also looking for actors suitable for the story.
My Lai Baby is also Hoang Nam's second film project after the surprising success of Soul Lamp . The film, released during the recent Tet holiday, earned more than 105 billion VND.
