The modern agricultural production model of Kien Tho Agricultural Service Cooperative has attracted many delegations to visit and learn from its experience.
In Tho Phu village of Kien Tho mountainous commune, Kien Tho agricultural service cooperative has boldly rented to transform a hillside agricultural land into a system of greenhouses for growing cantaloupe, cucumber and some other crops in a high-tech direction. Nearly 11,500m2 of sloping land that used to only grow pineapple and cassava with low economic efficiency has become a modern farming model, including nearly 7,000m2 of greenhouses, the rest is used for growing substrates and auxiliary technical works. In the greenhouses, melons grow well all year round, planted in alternating batches according to the modern organic agricultural development process. Cantaloupe products in the production area are supplied to many markets inside and outside the province.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Bien, representative of the Cooperative: “Since 2019, we have rented this land to invest in the first modern agricultural model of Kien Tho commune. Up to now, the total investment in production infrastructure, renovation, and greenhouse system has reached more than 2 billion VND. The Cooperative has signed a cooperation contract with Lam Son High-tech Agricultural Research and Development Center under Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company to transfer cultivation techniques and ensure product output”.
In 2021, the cooperative's cantaloupe products were recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards. Previously, the model was also recognized for production according to VietGAP standards. According to the cooperative's accounting, the average annual revenue of the model reached more than 1.8 billion VND, minus expenses and infrastructure depreciation, there was still a profit of more than 1 billion VND/year. Not only creating regular jobs for 5 local workers with an income of 5 to 7 million VND/person/month, the model also created an effect and transferred techniques to households in the area, contributing to changing the modern production mindset for people around the area. Kien Tho Agricultural Service Cooperative has proven that not only the delta area has favorable land, but just by changing the mindset and way of doing, in the mountains, it is also possible to build modern production areas, with income dozens of times higher than traditional crops in the past.
In the process of building and developing modern agriculture, Thanh Hoa province has achieved many important achievements. According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the period of 2020-2025, the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production increased by an average of about 3.81%/year, exceeding 0.81% compared to the target set by the 19th Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Congress. The economic structure within the agricultural sector is also shifting in the right direction, the proportion of livestock, forestry and fishery in the structure of agricultural, forestry and fishery production value is increasing.
In the roadmap for modern agricultural development, the province and the industry have identified the task of land accumulation to form large-scale production areas and apply scientific advances as an important task. Over the past 5 years, the whole province has accumulated an additional 34,170 hectares of land for large-scale agricultural production, applying high technology. Up to now, the total average food output in 2025 is maintained at 1.57 million tons, the value of crop production per unit area in 2025 is estimated at 125 million VND/ha, 34.6 million VND higher than in 2020.
Up to now, large-scale concentrated raw material production areas have been formed everywhere in the province, such as: concentrated fruit growing areas of 14,000 hectares, safe vegetable growing areas with a total planting area of 14,300 hectares. Traditional crops are also concentrated to easily apply technical advances in cultivation, creating an intensive rice growing area of 150,000 hectares, an intensive corn growing area of 20,000 hectares, an intensive sugarcane growing area of 12,000 hectares...
These production areas not only provide stable raw materials for the processing industry but also promote the development of digital agriculture, clean agriculture, organic agriculture, and circular agriculture according to the value chain. Also according to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the whole province currently has over 220 hectares of greenhouses and net houses; 2,500 hectares of production areas meeting VietGAP certification; nearly 20 hectares of crops meeting organic standards and about 5,100 hectares of crop areas producing in the organic direction. In localities, there have been thousands of livestock, aquaculture, and forestry models following the organic, biosafety, circular direction and having products certified for food safety.
With the direction of developing the domestic market and exporting agricultural products, the whole province has established growing area codes for nearly 2,000 hectares of agricultural crops, built an agricultural map, and developed the electronic information portal "nongsanantoanthanhhoa.vn" to connect the supply and demand of safe agricultural products. The province has attracted many large enterprises to invest in modern livestock farming such as: Newhope, DABACO, Xuan Thien Group, TH Group, Mastergood of Hungary... contributing to bringing Thanh Hoa agricultural products deeply into the domestic and international value chain.
The gradual modernization is contributing to building Thanh Hoa’s agricultural ecosystem to be more and more sustainable and increase its value. Agriculture has truly become the “pillar” of the province’s economy not only in the present but also in the future.
