James Rodriguez is about to change clubs. |
According to Mediotiempo , the Colombian midfielder will leave Club Leon after his contract expires next December. Neither side has any intention of extending it.
James joined Club Leon in early 2025 on a one-year contract, with the aim of participating in the FIFA Club World Cup with the Mexican side. However, those plans collapsed when FIFA disqualified Leon from the tournament for violating club ownership regulations. Since then, the former Real Madrid star's journey in Liga MX has not gone as expected.
Last season, Leon stopped at the quarter-finals of Clausura 2025. In the current Apertura season, the team is ranked second to last on the rankings. James's form has also declined significantly, with him scoring only 3 goals in 12 matches this season. In total, he has only scored 5 goals in 32 matches since joining the team.
According to multiple sources, both James and the club's leadership agreed that parting ways was the best option for both sides. Several major US clubs are closely monitoring the 33-year-old's situation.
With the 2026 World Cup looming, James will soon have to make a career-changing decision – possibly his last chance to prove himself at the top level.
