Investment in construction of Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway

Director of Project Management Board 85 Do Quang Minh said that, in order to carry out the tasks assigned by Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh in Decision No. 335/QD-BXD, Project Management Board 85 has developed a plan, coordinated with the locality to conduct surveys, research, and prepare a pre-feasibility report for the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum Expressway Construction Investment Project.

Sa Huynh intersection is part of the North-South expressway in the east, the section through Quang Ngai is the starting point of the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway.

Previously, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province coordinated with the People's Committee of Kon Tum province to study and propose to the Ministry of Construction an investment plan for the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway in the form of public investment. The project has a total length of about 136km, a scale of 4 lanes, a design speed of 80-100km/h, and a cross-section of 24.75m.

The expressway passes through Duc Pho Town and Ba To District (Quang Ngai) for 58km and Kon Plong, Kon Ray Districts, Kon Tum City (Kon Tum) for 78km. The starting point intersects with the North-South Expressway in the east at Duc Pho Town; the end point connects with the North-South Expressway in the west at Kon Tum City. This is a project in the group of important national transport projects, with an estimated total investment of more than 35 trillion VND.

The North-South Expressway, eastern section through Quang Ngai, is under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, connecting the country's economic and social development.

Director of Kon Tum Department of Construction Phan Muoi said that the Department has proactively sent staff to contact Project Management Board 85 to grasp information and propose that the Board soon have an official meeting with the locality about the expressway project. Currently, Kon Tum is also preparing a number of tasks regarding site clearance, resettlement, and conversion of forest land and agricultural land to traffic land so that when the project is officially implemented, it will be smooth and quick.

As for Quang Ngai, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Tran Trung Tin said that the Department has also identified a number of tasks related to the project that are under local responsibility. When Project Management Board 85 officially requests coordination, Quang Ngai will actively implement, in order to help the project be approved and start construction soon.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, a seafood trader in An Phu commune (Quang Ngai city) said that if the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway is completed and put into use, fresh sea fish and other seafood from Quang Ngai sea will reach Kon Tum people within just a few hours.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuyen, owner of Hoa Mua accommodation business in Mang Den town (Kon Plong), said that when the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway is built, the travel time from Mang Den to the coastal area of ​​Quang Ngai will be shortened, creating a good opportunity to connect forest - sea tourism, creating more wonderful experiences for tourists. From there, it will contribute to making Mang Den a national eco-tourism center, promoting economic and social development in the Central Highlands region. At the same time, it will create favorable conditions for exporting agricultural and forestry products of the Central Highlands to the world through Dung Quat port at a lower cost and in a shorter time.
