Planting 33 hectares of new mangrove forest in O Loan lagoon

The Institute of Ecology and Construction Protection (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) has just implemented the project of planting and caring for mangrove forests in O Loan lagoon (Tuy An district) in 2025.

After receiving the handover of water surface land from the specialized agency, the Institute of Ecology and Construction Protection has planted 33 hectares of new mangrove forests, with 66 plots in An Hoa Hai, An Hiep and An Ninh Dong communes. Of these, the institute planted 26.2 hectares of new water surface land in An Hoa Hai commune with trees such as mangrove, rhododendron, and nipa palm; planted 4.3 hectares in An Ninh Dong commune with mangrove and nipa palm trees; and planted 2.5 hectares in An Hiep commune with mangrove.

The project of planting and caring for mangrove forests in O Loan lagoon in 2025 aims to contribute to the restoration and development of the mangrove ecosystem in the O Loan lagoon area, improve the landscape and environment, limit the negative impacts of rising sea levels, create livelihoods for people to develop the economy in the direction of managing, protecting and developing sustainable coastal mangrove forests, and responding to climate change.

According to plan, the Institute of Ecology and Construction Protection will complete the project by early June.
