Working scene
Reporting at the working session, the leader of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee said that the total approved power capacity by 2030 is 14,475 MW, and the 2031-2035 period is 3,872.8 MW.
To date, the province has put into commercial operation 1,459.8 MW, including 21 wind power projects with a total capacity of 994.2 MW, 11 hydropower projects (181.5 MW), 4 solar power projects (159.2 MW) and more than 1,200 rooftop solar power systems (126.7 MW). The power grid system in the area has 4 220 kV transformer stations with a total capacity of 1,125 MVA, 8 500 kV lines with a length of 841.58 km and 21 110 kV stations with a total capacity of 955 MVA.
The province is focusing on implementing many key power source and transmission projects such as the Quang Tri 500 kV transformer station and connecting lines, expected to operate in the third quarter of 2025; the Lao Bao - Quang Tri 2 500 kV project cluster (operated in 2027); Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 1,403 MW (operated in 2026); Hai Lang LNG Project Phase 1 with a capacity of 1,500 MW (operated in 2028-2029).
However, localities still face difficulties in selecting investors for wind power projects due to the regulations on detailed planning or zoning at a scale of 1/2,000 according to the Land Law, which are not suitable for the specific characteristics of the route.
At the meeting, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien and representatives of the provinces proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade soon find solutions to remove difficulties in land use planning, investor selection mechanism, regulations on dossiers and appraisal of investment policies for energy projects; at the same time, consider bidding for key projects, and issue appropriate electricity price mechanisms for wind power projects that have been put into commercial operation.
