The report at the conference said that the city's potential underground water reserves were determined to be about 275,000m3/day and night. Currently, the city has licensed exploration and exploitation for 50 projects for the purpose of serving production, business, irrigation, etc. Da Nang 's surface water resources are assessed to be quite rich with the Vu Gia - Han River and Cu De River systems. In addition, the locality also has 51 natural lakes with a total capacity of about 6.1 million m3.
Although water resources are considered relatively abundant, water resources in Da Nang are also being affected by many impacts, many areas have shown signs of prolonged water depletion and salinity. Typically, in 2021, more than 4,000 households were affected by water supplies due to drought and salinity intrusion.
At the conference, a number of experts, scientists , businesses, and university lecturers in the field of water and environment shared and proposed many ideas and solutions to ensure domestic water sources for the city, especially in the context of the impact of climate change and El Nino.
Accordingly, some experts suggest planting trees to cover bare hills with species that can maintain groundwater levels and prevent soil erosion, reduce flash floods and minimize planting of acacia trees. Notably, the idea of building a number of small reservoirs in the west of the city to store rainwater, regulate flooding downstream, reduce salinity downstream, and improve the quality of the ecological environment.
In addition, it is necessary to implement a solution to raise the spillway threshold of the An Trach dam by 35cm to create an artificial reservoir on Yen, Lac Thanh, and La Tho rivers to store an additional 1 million m3 of water for daily regulation and multi-purpose use; supplement water from Thu Bon river to An Trach dam when Vu Gia river dries up; study to supplement water from a stream to Song Bac 2 reservoir when constructed in the future; build a number of dams to store water on Tuy Loan river for regulation and multi-purpose use...
