Former President Donald Trump on October 26 (local time) held an impressive rally for Arab-American and Muslim voters in Michigan, a swing state with nearly 400,000 Arab-American voters.
Incumbent President Joe Biden won the state in 2020, but voters' unhappiness with Israel's war in Gaza and Lebanon could weigh on Democratic candidate Harris's support.
Michigan is one of seven battleground states in the US that could decide the winner of the election. It is part of the “blue wall” that is seen as the Democrats’ best chance of gaining an advantage, along with Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Ms Harris also campaigned in Michigan on October 26, warning that Mr Trump would use “unchecked and extreme power” if he returned to the White House.
What do the polls say?
A recent poll released by Emerson College Polling shows that candidates Harris and Trump are in a tie, with 49% of the vote supporting each side.
The survey, conducted on October 23-24, showed a tighter race than a week earlier, when Harris led Trump 49.7% to 49.1%, marking the first time since August that Harris has not led in Emerson’s weekly poll.
Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said male voters are leaning more toward Trump, while female voters are leaning more toward Harris. The latest survey also found that 50% of American voters think Trump will win the election.
The poll also listed the top issues voters care about, including: the economy (45%), immigration (14%), threats to democracy (14%), abortion rights (7%), health care (6%) and crime (4%).
Meanwhile, FiveThirtyEight's latest daily average shows Ms Harris leading in national polls, 47.9% to Mr Trump's 46.6%.
Battleground state Michigan
Ms. Harris campaigned in Michigan alongside former First Lady Michelle Obama, who electrified the Democratic crowd by highlighting the differences between the two candidates in terms of personality and personal qualifications.
Mrs. Obama warned that “another Trump term would result in the reversal of abortion rights.” She said Mr. Trump’s promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act passed during the Barack Obama administration would affect “women’s health as a whole, and everyone’s health.”
Ms Harris delivered an upbeat speech, but was then interrupted by a protester who repeatedly shouted: “End the war in Gaza”.
After Harris' supporters shouted over the interruption, she replied: “On the subject of Gaza, we have to end that war.”
Also on the campaign trail in Michigan, Mr. Trump met with a group of Muslim preachers, arguing that he deserved the support of Muslim voters because he would end conflict and bring peace to the Middle East.
According to US media, Mr. Trump is a strong supporter of Israel and once told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “do what you have to do when it comes to solving the problem of Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.”
Still, Mr Trump appears to be gaining support from some Muslim Americans disaffected by President Joe Biden and Ms Harris's policies in Gaza.
What's Coming Up
According to Harris' campaign, the vice president will spend the entire day of October 27 in Philadelphia, traveling across the city in a series of events to rally voters. Turnout in Philadelphia could be a deciding factor in whether Harris wins the crucial state of Pennsylvania, which has 19 electoral votes.
Harris's daylong trip will focus on predominantly black and Latino neighborhoods in a city that tends to lean Democratic, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Harris is scheduled to attend services and speak at a historically black church in West Philadelphia. She will also visit a West Philadelphia barbershop to speak with young black men and community leaders.
Meanwhile, Mr Trump will attend a rally at one of the country's most iconic venues, New York City's Madison Square Garden, to deliver his closing campaign message.
Mr. Trump was born and raised in Queens, New York City. He also built his real estate career in the city.
Former President Trump will be joined at the rally by supporters including Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who has spent tens of millions of dollars to boost his campaign.
