Stage 14 of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup - Ton Dong A 2025, 179km long, from Pleiku City (Gia Lai Province) to Buon Ma Thuot City ( Dak Lak Province) took place in the typical sunny and windy conditions of the Central Highlands.
And neither team completely dominated the match after the start. Rider Ivan Blokhin (Gao Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang ) was the first to stand out with a sprint victory in Chu Se town.
After about 80km, a group of nearly 10 riders broke away, creating a gap of nearly 3 minutes. However, continuous attacks from behind caused the situation to change rapidly.
Finally, a strong leading group was formed, including many riders in the overall ranking group such as Mikhail Fokin (yellow jersey, Loc Troi Group), Johnny Hoogerland (HCMC - Vinama), Samuel Jenner (620 Chau Thoi Vinh Long), Loic Desriac (Domesco Pharmaceutical Dong Thap), Savva Novikov (Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastic)... and a few Vietnamese riders.
Vietnam only has one representative left, when the group fell to only 6 athletes, Nguyen Truc Xinh (HCMC - New Group), who had a brave performance when winning sprint 3 in Buon Ho before falling back due to fatigue.
Loic Desriac wins thanks to veteran experience
As the remaining group of 5 foreign players continued to maintain high speed and a gap of more than 2 minutes, the pursuit efforts from the teams behind - especially Dong Nai - were almost unsuccessful.
While the riders in the leading group started to be cautious because they were all direct rivals in the overall standings, Loic Desriac made the decisive move around the last 4km. He suddenly accelerated away while his rivals were still testing each other.
This tactically sound move immediately created a gap of up to 30 seconds, and no one was able to mount an effective counterattack. Samuel Jenner suffered a technical problem, further hampering the pursuit effort.
So Loic Desriac went alone to the finish line, winning a well-deserved victory. This was Desriac's second individual victory in the tournament, affirming his class and mettle as a veteran "tactical card player".
Loic Desriac shared: "Today was another long, steep stage. I knew my opponents were exhausted after stage 13. In the final stage, the riders with high positions in the individual rankings were very close to each other and that was the opportunity for me to attack and escape. I am very happy with this victory."
Tomorrow (April 19), the racers will continue stage 15 - around Buon Ma Thuot City, 46.5km long, promising many more exciting speed competitions between the top racers of the tournament.
