Established in 2023, the intergenerational self-help club of residential group 3 (Pong Drang town) has become a common home for 60 members. The club has the participation of union members, youth, women, veterans and the elderly; through which members can learn and exchange experiences in economic development and life experiences.
Ms. Huynh Thi Loan, Chairwoman of the Club, shared that since its establishment, the Club has focused on social security activities, supporting the disadvantaged and people in difficult circumstances.
To operate effectively, the Club's Board of Directors has developed an action plan and established appropriate groups and activities according to the members' talents and living areas, such as: economic development group, health care group, art and wellness group, etc.

One of the activities that the club members respond to most positively is physical exercise. Every day at 5am, club members gather to do physical exercises to improve their health and create solidarity among members.
"The intergenerational self-help club is a living environment that suits the needs and psychology of the elderly. Since joining the club, the elderly have become more aware of their position and role in the family and society, and know how to sympathize and share with the younger generation the pressures of modern life. Therefore, families and villages are more peaceful and united" - Chairman of the Association of the Elderly in Krong Buk district . |
Participating in the art and health group since its establishment, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (60 years old) has significantly reduced the symptoms of bone and joint pain, insomnia, and fatigue. Ms. Huong expressed that practicing health regularly with gentle and flexible movements not only helps improve health but also makes the spirit more optimistic and happy.
Not only taking care of health and helping the elderly improve their spiritual life, many intergenerational self-help clubs in the district have also built a revolving fund for members to borrow capital to invest in developing the family economy; sharing experiences in effective care of plants and animals.
For example, the intergenerational self-help club in Mui 3 village (Cu Ne commune), after 8 years of establishment, members have voluntarily contributed 180 million VND to the fund.
Accordingly, each member can borrow from 10 to 20 million VND to develop the economy and solve temporary difficulties. The interest earned is used by the club to visit and encourage the elderly when they are sick or in trouble.
As one of the members who received a loan of 20 million VND in 2023, Mr. Nguyen Lam shared: “The loan amount is not large but it helps my family in difficult times. With the loan amount, I bought fertilizer to take care of 2 hectares of durian. Thanks to that, in 2024, the durian garden yielded 7 tons. My family has repaid the loan so that other members in difficulty can borrow."
Krong Buk district currently has 16 intergenerational self-help clubs with 1,220 members. The total capital mobilized by the clubs is nearly 3 billion VND; 96 members are poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households that are supported with loans. Every month, through regular meetings, club members discuss solutions to mobilize resources, ways to support and care for the elderly in difficult circumstances; at the same time, they are updated with information on the policies of the Party and the State; and they exchange experiences and help each other in life.
