On the evening of September 22, a representative of the Fatherland Front Committee of District 5 (HCMC) said that they had started removing plastic grass wrapped around lamp posts and electric poles on some roads. This work began in the morning of the same day.

According to the representative of the District 5 Fatherland Front Committee, the removal of the plastic grass panels is to re-evaluate the effectiveness of the project of wrapping plastic grass around lamp posts and electric poles that this unit has implemented after 4 years.

The plastic grass panels after being removed from the electric poles were kept by the wards. The Fatherland Front Committee of District 5 is also waiting for further instructions to decide the "fate" of these removed plastic grass panels.

The "dressing" of lamp posts and electric poles was initiated by the Fatherland Front Committee of District 5, and has been carried out by local people and the locality since 2019. The total cost of the project is more than 280 million VND, contributed by benefactors and local people. To date, in District 5, 495 electric poles and 1,286 lamp posts have been wrapped with plastic grass. The cost of wrapping each electric pole with plastic grass is about 130,000 - 150,000 VND.

The purpose of this is to deal with illegal advertising. "Wrapping plastic grass on electric poles ensures urban aesthetics and this product can be used for 1-2 years. At the same time, it also helps reduce pressure on frontline cadres at the grassroots level when they have to regularly scrape and peel off advertisements and classified ads posted on these electric poles" - Mr. Le Tan Tai, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of District 5, said at a press conference providing periodic socio-economic information in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of September 21.

After 4 years of implementation, it has brought about results when the situation of posting illegal billboards and classified ads has significantly decreased. The majority of people also believe in the effectiveness of this and continue to make artificial grass carpets.
