Quach Ngoc Ngoan has just returned with the main role in the movie Lame Heart . For the past 7 years, the actor has been absent because he lost his passion for the profession and also experienced many personal events.
On this occasion, he opened up about art and his personal life, from the dark moments to when he picked himself up and started everything over again at the age of U40.
Don't blame those who are shy and reject you.

- After 7 years of absence from the cinema, many people thought Quach Ngoc Ngoan had stopped playing. What made him come back?
The first time I received the script for the movie Lame Heart , I didn't feel much. I jokingly told everyone that this was a script with a very strange taste, and those who were familiar with it would like it. It wasn't until I read it for the third time that I fully felt the role.
This is the first project of director Nguyen Quoc Cong, and also my return after 7 years with The Immortal . Triet - the character I play in the film is a sculptor. Because he is so absorbed in art, he sometimes forgets his wife.
The script interested me because of its novelty and familiarity. I wanted to tell everyone about the character's love story and the turmoil surrounding him.
- Returning to cinema after 7 years, you chose the first project of a young director. Why didn't you consider a larger and more promising work?
I don’t care if the project is big or small, the director is young or famous. Although Cong is a “newbie” in the role of director, he is a famous producer, associated with the films Mat biec, Em va Trinh, Toi thay hoa vang tren co xanh … or recently Tu chien tren khong .
Receiving the invitation to act in a movie from director Quoc Cong, the first thing I asked him was: Are you okay, Cong? He replied: "You're so okay, I'm so happy you accepted" , I was given a lot of energy.
- When you asked the director: "Are you okay?", can you understand that this came from your own lack of confidence?
Not really! I say that because I want to put myself in the director's shoes. There are too many actors in the market now, my generation or younger generation.
Professionally, I'm not worried because a professional actor always has positive energy inside.
The films I appear in are primarily because I find them suitable. When I accept each project, I always worry about how to make everything the best it can be, not allowing it to be superficial or sloppy.

- From now until early 2026, you have 5 projects coming out one after another. By accepting so many films, do you want to revive your reputation and solve the financial burden?
Of course, money is important. I need money to support my life too! Both sides agreed on a suitable price on the contract and then went into cooperation.
After The Immortal , I lost my passion for the profession. Many scripts came to me but I found them not good or suitable so I kept refusing. I kept the habit of saying no if I didn't feel the story or the director made me feel uneasy. That's my professional perspective, no one can force me.
- How did you overcome the fear of the past to continue your unfinished artistic path?
I know that some producers and organizations are hesitant and refuse to invite Quach Ngoc Ngoan to join the project. More than anyone, I sympathize with this and do not blame them.
The film crew is large and has invested a large amount of money, so it is understandable that they choose actors to ensure the safety of the project.
Despite the difficulties, I have never thought of giving up. I still love my job and am eager to contribute because art flows in my blood.
Promise to repay debt and expensive lesson
- Is your financial situation better now?
My hardest time is over. Thank goodness for my ancestors, my colleagues, and the audience, who still love me and give me the opportunity to work. Besides movies, my brother and I also work together to earn more income.
Our grandparents used to say: "Hit the one who runs away, not the one who runs back" . In 2023, I publicly announced my debt, hoping to be given the opportunity to earn money to pay it off.
Up to now, my partners and business contacts have been sympathetic and understanding. I have also worked hard over the past few years to maintain my reputation with them. I have not set a specific schedule, but I promise to pay everyone properly.

- During the dark times, how did you face everything?
I like to be alone, limit going out even though I know there are still many people around cheering and ready to welcome. I think anyone in an accident would have similar feelings.
I have always been alone but I have never thought negatively when facing difficulties. I always keep my spirit at the highest level to face and overcome the incident.
Life has many unexpected twists and turns that make me grow and mature.
- How did you get up from the mess?
I seek support from my parents, children, and a few friends both inside and outside showbiz. Especially, it is the love of the audience that helps me to be reborn.
Recently, when the news of my return to acting was posted, many people left comments of encouragement, saying they were looking forward to my role. That alone was enough to warm my heart.
Of course, there were people who let go and avoided me. They used to be close friends, but when something happened, they became strangers, even though I never thought of asking for help.
Maybe they think I have a problem and don't want to hang out with me anymore. That's their choice and I have to accept it.
- How did you take care of your health and heal after the incident?
I am currently single and happy with everything. Every day, I go to work like everyone else, this time is a bit busier because I have to run projects in parallel.
My day repeats itself with daily routines such as: Coffee every morning, going to work, playing sports , meeting people… I do art, if I look shaggy and gain weight, it is not good. I still go to the gym and jog regularly to keep my body healthy and in the best shape.
The most important thing is to stay positive. Over the past time, I have been healing myself, from reading books to learning from some friends who are experts in this field.
I realized that incidents do not necessarily make us feel down, negative, or stuck. Sometimes they help us learn valuable lessons.

- So what is the most valuable lesson you learned?
Just live and work to the fullest, do what makes you feel confident and best. When things go wrong, don't let it go, try to go against it. No one can help you get up and stand up better than yourself. That's what I've learned over the years.
- You once said that your biggest regret is not being able to be close to your children and witness them grow up. How do you make it up to them?
My children now live with their mother. Luckily, they have a good life and receive a lot of love from adults. Even though I am far away from them, I still pay attention to them every day.
In my free time, I contact my children via video call, cherishing every minute I get to talk to them. They are a source of motivation that helps me live and think more positively.
I guess my children don't know my hardships yet, and I hope they don't. But maybe when they grow up, they will. I just hope they take things lightly.
